Planning

This is the first of three DIY wedding flower tutorials we'll be bringing you over the coming weeks. These beautiful and striking floral arrangements for chair backs truly elevate a wedding aisle or reception and couldn't be simpler to create. The lovely Emily and Lucy at 3acre Blooms will take you through each step, with lots of helpful images from Ross Talling. If you have any questions or would like some more guidance, do leave a comment under the post and we'll help! See here for more floral DIY projects or visit The List to call in the professionals like the 3acre Blooms girls. They make it look easy, but we'd recommend a couple of trial runs before the big day :) Enjoy creating some of your own wedding flower decor! And if you're giving this a go please do share on Instagram so we can see your creations!

DIY Wedding Flower Arrangements

These are so simple to make, yet so effective at creating a beautiful impression upon entering a room. You can be creative and keep them all similar in style or if you want to add a bit of personality then you can vary the arrangement for each. They can then be attached to chair backs, using ribbon or twine, or for longevity, stems can be placed in small glass vessels - like vintage milk bottles or small jam jars and attached to chairs using twine or wire.

The Ingredients

Everything used is British Grown, either grown by us, 3acre Blooms, or other British Flower Growers who are committed to sustainability and seasonality.

The Steps

1. Prepare your flowers and foliage by stripping the stems of lower leaves and any thorns.

2. Lay out the flowers and foliage into types, so that you can easily see what you have to play with.

3. Begin by creating a foliage framework in a fan shape.

4. Once you're happy with the shape, you can start placing your flowers.

5. Using the foliage backdrop as a guide begin by placing flowers at the front, not at the back, which will be against the chair.

6. Start with the larger flowers at differing heights and then add in smaller flowers like the sweetpeas, snapdragons and achillea.

7. Once you're happy with the arrangement, secure below the base of the flowers using the pot tape.

8. Trim stems so that they are neat and all the same length.

9. Tie with ribbons, covering the tape by wrapping the ribbon around the stems a couple of times.

10. Secure with a bow and trailing ribbon and then secure to chair back using twine or wire.
