Inspiration

When the family home looks as beautiful as bride Sarah's it really is a no brainer to hold the wedding there. Making excellent use of the stunning gardens and following the 'English Country' theme through to the marquee reception with epic hanging foliage garlands and hoops. Sarah looks incredible in a Rime Arodaky gown, giving the illusion of bridal separates with its cutaway top under the lace overlay. As do her bridesmaids in blush pink dresses from the high street. Keeping with tradition the groomsmen opt for morning suits, and together this wedding party are pure goals. The wonderful photography skills of Jason Mark Harris were on hand making this collection of images a delight to pore over.

Rime Arodaky Wedding Dress from The Mews Bridal Boutique

Sarah & Kit: I had tried on loads of dresses but couldn’t find one that I liked- they all felt so old fashioned and heavy. We were getting married in the summer and I hated the idea that I wouldn’t be able to dance in it. As soon as I tried on the Rime Arodaky dress at Mews I knew it was the one.

Monsoon Bridesmaid Dresses

I had 6 bridesmaids and it was hard to find dresses which would suit all of them and even harder to find dresses which weren’t covered in chiffon and frills. I came across their dress in Monsoon and it suited every single one of them- they all looked amazing!

Family Home Marquee Wedding on the Isle of Wight

We always knew we wanted to get married at my family home- it’s an old rectory on the Isle of Wight so the church is conveniently right next door! Getting married at home was incredibly special and will always hold so many amazing memories for us.

DIY English Country Garden Wedding

We wanted a relaxed English country wedding. My parent's house is set in a beautiful garden full of flowers and hidden corners so we tried to make use of the space as much as possible. We wanted to make as many of the decorations ourselves so we got creative! We made lights to hang in the trees & covered hula hoops in twine and flowers for a wall display. My dad helped to paint the backdrop for the cake and designed the table plan. We are avid beer brewers and so we created a craft beer bar with hay bale seats which we stocked with an array of our favourite brewery’s beers, Magic Rock, along with a couple of our own brews of course! (our I DO Brew went down especially well along with our Grapefruit Pith Up IPA!)

Wedding Weekend

As all our guests were making their way over to the Isle of Wight we wanted to make the most of the weekend. On Sunday we organised a game of cricket, BBQ and a steel band at the village cricket green. Life moment achieved when we both walked out to open the batting to the steel band playing the Cricket World cup song.

Green Foliage Wedding Flowers

For our flowers, we wanted to continue the English country garden theme with lots of green foliage and splashes of colour- along with plenty of hops of course! We had a marquee in the garden which we hung ropes of loose foliage along the tables as well as a stunning hanging centrepiece over the dance floor.

Wedding Entertainment

We used a band called Rhythm of the Night who were amazing- They did a jazz set in the afternoon and covers in the evening. I would highly recommend them, there wasn’t a single person who wasn’t tearing up the dance floor by the end. They even adapted our favourite song for us for our first dance: Me and Julio by Paul Simon.

Church Wedding Ceremony

We got married in the church next door to our house so it felt really personal. The reading we chose was from Captain Correlis Mandolin which is one of my favourite books.

Wedding Catering

It was important to us that we use organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce where possible. Our canapes were all inspired by the countries we had visited together. Ceviche using locally sourced bass, Vietnamese pork belly from the farm next door and Isle of Wight cheese soufflés were my personal favourites! The starter was Isle of Wight crab and for main, we had a trio of local Bembridge lamb. There was also a cheese board and vintage pizza van for the evening snack which went down well with the guests. My aunt kindly made the cake for us. An incredible three-story Victoria sponge cake covered in wildflowers- it was stunning!

Wedding Photographer

We found Jason Mark Harris through Rock my Wedding. As soon as we saw his photos we knew he was the photographer for us. We loved his style and all our friends and family haven’t stopped raving about the photos.

Wedding Advice

Focus on the things that you find important and the personal touches that bring the whole day together. We really appreciated having an Event Manager there on the day so we could just enjoy ourselves. We wanted to use local companies and so It was especially useful to find suppliers in the Isle of Wight via the Rock My Wedding supplier Directory, The List, via location, which doesn’t always come up on a google search.
