KNOW YOUR SIZE

One of the most important things to get right when selecting your suit for the big day is the fit! A perfectly fitting suit should not pull at the shoulders, button comfortably across the chest and the trouser should break just at the top of your shoe. We would always recommend that you visit your nearest branch for everyone in the party to be measured. This can be done at a time to suit you and no appointment is needed.

PICK A SUIT TO COMPLIMENT THE BRIDAL PARTY

Before you pick your suit, make sure that you discuss colour schemes with the boss… Sorry we mean the Bride 😉 Ideally you will pick a colour that compliments the Bridal party (consider bridesmaids, parents of the bride/groom & groomsmen). For a Spring/Summer wedding it’s popular to keep the colour palette light and fresh, you will often see the pastel theme coming through in the bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers, so consider shades of blue or soft greys to compliment the gentle colouring.

ADD THE FINISHING TOUCHES

It’s all about the little details! Matching your tie & pocket square with the bridesmaids’ dresses is a great way to create a consistent look across the wedding party. A well-placed balance of colour among the key people of the day can really make the wedding pictures. That being said, don’t be afraid to mix and match pattern & texture, showcase your creative flair by choosing a plain tie with a patterned pocket square or vice-versa, touches like this are subtle but add a unique edge to the overall style.

WHAT IF THE PARTY MEMBERS DON’T LIVE IN THE SAME AREA?

This is an easy one…we have 23 stores nationwide, soon to be 24 with the imminent opening of our new Bristol branch. We can arrange the delivery of your chosen suit to the most convenient branch for your wedding party members. This means, if any alterations are required this can be done in their local store to make it easier. Simply have them pop in for a quick fitting with one of our professional tailors and we will alter the suit to the perfect fit, ready to be collected in just a few of days.

ALTERATIONS

We offer free alterations on any suit purchased online or in store with adjustments available for the lifetime of the suit. Put your faith in our professional tailors & seamstresses who are renowned for working wonders with fabric. They will alter the outfit to your specific measurements and produce a suit that will feel like it was made just for you.

So fire away with any questions…

  1. Hi guys,

I’m getting married in September in Provence – what suit fabric would you recommend for keeping cool during the day, but that will be warm when the temperature drops at night?

    Thanks,

    Pete

    1. Hi Pete,

      Thanks for your question.

We would recommend either a linen or a polyester mixed blend fabric. They would definitely keep you cool during the day and warm enough when the temperature drops. You could maybe go for a three piece style which would give you the option of removing the jacket during the day when its warmer. We are due to receive some linen separates next month, jacket, waistcoat and trouser, these will be available in stone and navy. 2. Hi Slaters Team,

Thank you for joining us this morning and providing your expertise! I’ve got a question from a reader via twitter that hopefully you can help with…

‘My groomsmen are all very different in size & stature, while a slim fitting suit would look great on one, it would look terrible on another. BUT I’d like them all to look uniform, as our Bridesmaids are wearing matching dresses – how can we achieve this and still make sure they all look dapper?’

    1. Hi Fern,

Thanks for your question this morning 🙂

We come across this often with wedding parties as a slim fit suit isn’t for everyone! What we’ would recommend is picking your suit to accommodate those in the party in the bigger sizes/stature, that way the party will all look uniformly dapper! A tailored fit suit is usually best. Our favourite right now is our handsome Fellini Tailored Three Piece Donegal Tweed Suit, with our free alterations service we would be able to alter the suits to a slimmer silhouette for those in the party that suit a slimmer fit.

We hope you have a fantastic Wedding Day!

  3. Hi Guys, what do you recommend for a beach wedding? Doesn’t have to be a suit but it will be at 6pm in Greece so still hot. Normal suits are a no go.

    1. Hi Richard,

      Thanks for your question.

We would definitely recommend a lighter fabric for a warmer climate. A linen or polyester blend fabric in a cooler colour such as stone, light grey or light blue would be perfect. For a beach wedding you could also go for an open collar shirt with a hanky in the pocket of your jacket/waistcoat to add a splash of colour to your look. We are due to receive some linen and lighter coloured suits/separates over the next few months that might be suitable. 4. Hi Slaters

We’re trying to keep costs down with our outfit budget (except the wedding dress maybe….) and so we’re going for black suits in the hope that the groomsmen should all have smart black trousers and a white shirt. How easy is it to match a waistcoat and jacket to a pair of trousers so they look cohesive? Will this actually save us much money or would we be better to just bite the bullet with getting the whole suit?

    Many thanks

    Laura

    1. Hi Laura,

Thank you for your question 🙂

We totally understand, Wedding budgets are always tight, it’s an expensive affair. It may be difficult to find a cohesive match, especially when all the groomsmen may have different variations of black trousers. Also jacket and waistcoats tend to be the most expensive part of the suit as a whole, so majority of the time you’re actually cheaper buying the full suit as a set.

Our black suits start from £59 for a tailored two piece and £99 for a tailored three piece suit. We also offer all of our new customers a discount on their first order through simply signing up for our newsletter.

We hope you have an amazing Wedding Day!

  5. Hi Slaters,
I am wearing a blush wedding dress, and am wondering what colour of suit you would recommend for the groom? The bridesmaids are wearing a grey/navy colour. I would like him to wear navy but he is concerned he wont look different from the guests/what he wears to work everyday, its a 3 -piece we are looking for.
    Many thanks,
    Stacey

    1. Hi Stacey,

      Thank you for your question.

We would recommend going for either a grey or navy suit, choosing a checked suit for the Groom will ensure that he stands out from the crowd. We are loving the mix and match look just now!, so you could go for grey and navy checked suits for the Groom and his Groomsmen
and get them to swap the waistcoats over to create a unique look. If you check out our Wedding lookbook online you will be able to see an example of the suits that we mixed and matched http://www.slaters.co.uk/wedding-trends-2016.

We hope you have an amazing Wedding day!
