Inspiration

Kejal & Matt ensured they represented both their heritages by having a fabulous fusion rustic Indian country wedding at The Green in Cornwall. First up was their humanist ceremony in a barn with bunting and fairy lights, followed by a traditional Indian ceremony under a beautifully decorated mandap. All culminating in a rustic reception full of giant balloons, and Kejal's wonderful stationery. Paramount throughout is the couples love for one another, so get ready to swoon, you're going to love it!

Fusion Rustic Indian Country Wedding

Kejal & Matt: The vision was everything! The vision was ‘fusion’ – modern, rustic, Indian, countryside vibes that would play on both our cultures. Specifically, with the colours of Indian culture, but the intimacy of white weddings. We only had 100 guests, which is unheard of for most Indian weddings! It’s safe to say we threw out the (Indian) wedding rulebook and had so much fun creating something that was special for us both

The Green Wedding Venue

I wanted to find a venue that was versatile and, importantly, had a few barns/spaces so that guests wouldn’t get bored being in the same space all day. The Green absolutely delivered that, and more – including epic views. Oh, and the accommodation – wow! The idea of making the wedding a weekend affair, rather than just a day event, was really special and having 30 of our nearest and dearest friends/family stay on site was the best.

Styling & Decor

It was all about the detail for me. Bringing the fusion vision to life was tricky in places. The mandap was key to the fusion décor; I struggled to find a cost-effective, small mandap supplier as normally in Indian weddings they are highly embellished, metallic, large structures – but on Rock My Wedding I stumbled upon London Chuppah House who have used their canopies for fusion weddings in the past. They totally delivered on the day, it was gorgeous to see. To add a special touch and height to the reception room, I wanted large balloons on each table all hung at various heights.

Memorable Moments

  • For both of us, the Indian ceremony was particularly memorable and so unusual: Matt loved all the little rituals and exchanges with my family before I arrived, including getting his shoes back as they were ‘stolen’ by the girls on my side of the family! We really loved the mandap and how beautiful it looked.
  • After the ceremony, we conducted a ritual called the Vidai, which is essentially where my side barter with Matt to ‘buy me back’ (another Indian tradition), there was loads of energy and banter in the room – it was great to see everyone get involved!
  • Matt and I doing our first dance successfully, getting some cheers along the way!
  • The night before the wedding, we had dinner at the venue with our nearest and dearest ahead of the big day, that felt so intimate and special.
  • When I saw our two flower girls (our nieces) dressed up in their outfits as I left my cottage en-route to the Civil ceremony, both waving at me from the green room.
  • The best man speech was very well thought through and got a lot of laughs, and it was so nice to hear my Dad do his speech.
  • Taking a handful of closest friends for the sparkler photographs near the end of the night in the rustic barn, it was a lovely moment to share with them.
