Inspiration

It's time to get crafty at Katherine and Lewis' Monkton Barn wedding in Marlow, as they show off their DIY skills with a hula hoop table plan and gold glitter table numbers. The glit-terrific-ness doesn't stop there with Katherine donning an embellished bodice wedding dress and her best girls in MAYA sequin dresses. Plus how amazing do all the white and green blooms look filling the marquee reception?!

Wedding Venue

We viewed a couple of venues before discovering Monkton Barn in Marlow. We knew we wanted to get married somewhere close to home, and wanted a blank canvas space that enabled us to really make it our own. What really sold the venue to us was the absolute feeling of ‘home’ as soon as we stepped inside. Peter, the owner, made the whole process from start to finish an absolute dream. Nothing we asked for was ever too much and no idea was ever too big, he truly allowed us to make the venue our own and we’ll be forever grateful. Unlike many venues, we were also able to ‘stay and play’ as late as we wanted. I’ll never forget jumping around the dance floor in my wedding dress (which was by this point covered in gold confetti) at 3 am, with the last few guests standing, singing at the top of my lungs and running around the room in flip flops.

Glitter Table Numbers for Wedding

We feel like Katherine and Lewis have gone through our DIY archives and crafted themselves some wonderful wedding decorations for their reception. They had a hula hoop table plan and gold glitter table numbers plus lots and lots of white and green flowers and geometric centerpieces. Their rustic reception looks warm, inviting and utterly splendid to boot.

Inspiration & Style

From the moment we got engaged, I spent a lot of time on Pinterest. We knew we wanted the decor to be modern, yet romantic. We opted for a neutral colour palette of mainly green and gold with touches of ivory and silver. We found a company to dress the ceremony room with gorgeous romantic ceiling drapery, which really transformed the space. We added personal touches to the decor, such as a series of polaroids featuring moments from our relationship to the venue’s entrance, and we also found a lot of decorative pieces online from the likes of Hobby Craft and Ginger Ray. Geometric centrepieces and design elements throughout brought a modern feel to the styling, we had beautiful gold carved name places from Gifts by Hannah for all the day guests at the wedding breakfast and we also ensured the signage throughout the venue matched with our colour scheme and thematic ideas. The wedding invites, wedding breakfast menus and all the signage for the venue were all expertly designed by one of my talented bridesmaids, who runs Laura Ellen Ward Designs. She truly captured the essence of our wedding perfectly, with bespoke typography and visuals that really tied the whole event together.
