Hannah & Luke

Hannah is a simply stunning bride in her ‘Leonela’ Pronovias tulle wedding dress, I LOVE the appliqué bateau neckline, it’s so pretty and feminine.

Hannah is also a super helpful bride too; she’s listed all her beautiful blooms for you so you can literally pop into your florist and say “I’ll have that please!” What gorgeous blooms they are too, lovely soft pink & white rose bouquets and did you see that hydrangea flower arch over the church? not forgetting the flower crown – STUNNING!

This is such a classic, romantic wedding with a gorgeous pale grey & pink colour scheme and so many pretty details. Did we mention the blooms….?! We literally LOVE it & we know you will too!

Hannah The Bride: Our wedding truly was the best day of my life- even though I have spent my whole life dreaming of weddings and eighteen months planning ours- it still managed to exceed my expectations. I spent most of the day crying happy tears and we felt truly honoured to have all our friends and family all together to celebrate our marriage with us; it is a feeling that we will never forget. The memories of the day still bring me to tears now- best day ever!

Luke and I were agreed from the start with our priorities- we had waited ten years to get married and as we had been together since college. Therefore we wanted everyone to be able to relax and enjoy the day so our priorities were good food, a free bar with everyone’s favourite drinks and a good live band. We wanted everyone to feel included and welcome at our day- that was our main aim!

The Brides Fashion & Accessories

I loved dress shopping. My mum and sister picked out ‘Leonela’ by Pronovias for me to try on at the boutique- I didn’t think it would be ‘me’.
However as soon as I tried it on I cried, my mum cried and my sister (who never cries) cried and said ‘Hannah that is how you are meant to look as a bride’. I fell in love with the bateau neck line, the delicate beading and embroidery.
I loved wearing ‘Leonela’ and the full length simple veil made the look complete. I wanted to be a classic bride to fit our classical and elegant wedding and I loved every moment in the dress- I wish I could wear her again. The team at Anya Bridal Boutique were fantastic and took care of all of my fittings.

Because my dress had lots of detail I kept my accessories simple. My side tiara was made for me by Once Upon a Time Tiara’s and completed my look for the day.

The Grooms Fashion & Accessories

Luke is very classic and simple when it comes to clothes. He knew he wanted to buy a suit and Hugo Boss had the perfect fitted three piece in a light grey for him. He accessorised with a silk silver grey tie and pocket square. He looked fantastic and felt comfortable which was a priority for Luke. He looked so handsome stood at the top of the aisle- I couldn’t wait to be his wife! Luke loves shoes and he found the perfect pair from Tods– a classic look completed.

The Venue

I grew up five minutes from Hill Place and when I discovered they did weddings I kept it in my mind, dreaming that if Luke asked that would be the place I would want to have a reception. Luckily Luke agreed it was the reception venue for us- we loved the freedom they offered and the beautiful surroundings where we grew up made it very special.

Luke and I loved every minute of our time with Hill Place, they made us feel like family and Kimberly the events manager was amazing and made sure we were able to do everything we wanted. Hill Place is a dry hire venue so you can design your day from scratch whilst still enjoying the perks of a beautiful location.

Luke and I loved the fact it is an unspoilt Georgian house and it suited our classical day perfectly. The drinks and canapés were served on the lawn with the string quartet playing and then the wedding breakfast was served in the marquee in the garden.

We were able access to the grounds for the whole week before and the night before the wedding I stayed with my mum and bridesmaids to get ready there all together.

I honestly still can’t believe how lucky we were with Hill Place, I walked into the marquee when we were setting up on the day before and I saw the sun shining with the horses in the beautiful fields behind and cried- it truly was a perfect venue and we felt honoured to use it for our reception.

Colour Scheme/Décor

Luke had always wanted to wear a grey suit and the colour scheme started from there. I love pinks- but didn’t want a bubble gum day- therefore we decided on blush pinks and ivory with silver grey (trying to remain with our classic and elegant theme) and lots of silver/green herbs and foliage to compliment.

I love bows and because my dream dress turned out not to have a bow (something I always imagined it would) I was determined bows would be used in the décor (order of service, pew ends, cake, chairs, on my bouquets, around the venue on bay trees, signage, baskets etc)

Luke is not someone who enjoys fuss and his only ‘rule’ for me was he wanted the day to look timeless and classic. I will forever be thankful that my husband trusted me with styling the day. My mum and sister both helped me create the look with lots and lots of mercury effect, candles and flowers. There are so many beautiful ideas for weddings and my sister and mum helped me stay focused on not going over the top and designing a classic day to match the church and venue. I was a wedding blog/Pinterest addict during planning and it helped to have a clear vision with all the beautiful ideas.

I wanted the day to be personal and a few of my favourite touches were-

  • Our table plan was a sea of flower posies in mercury effect vases.
  • We tied individual ribbons on the backs of the chairs in the marquee to add an extra pop of colour.
  • Our table names were our favourite songs and under the name there was a little anecdote of why it was special to us as a couple.
  • We framed pictures of our family member’s weddings on our card table.
  • I made a wish tree for guest’s messages.
  • My sister made Polaroid style pictures of Luke and I’s time together over the past ten years to hang on the fireplaces.
  • Flip Flops in our wedding colours to ensure everyone could carry on dancing the night away.
  • Each female had a small bud vase on her seat by her place name to take home.
  • Place names had a little message to each guest to say something personal about their relationship with us.
  • My mum, sister and I made confetti bags using tiny wax paper envelopes, dried rose buds and petals from Shropshire Petal’s and used personalised labels from Label Amour to seal them. The labels also closed our invitations and were used on stirrers to keep consistency.

I sourced Lola’s Paperie to do our stationery- they were the only stationers I could find who had a card stock in the ‘right’ pale pink for our day. I loved the pale pink stationery with the silver grey print and it was used for everything from invitations, order of service, place names, table plan, table names and all signage.

The owner of the car company we used Swanmore Wedding Cars was one of our best friends father’s company. Therefore James our friend was able to drive me to the church and drive us to the reception- one of our best friends! It was such a special part of the day. We loved the vintage cars as they added that classic glamour to the day.

Flowers from the start were our most important part of styling the day. The Real Flower Company met with my mum and I numerous times to ensure they brought our vision to life perfectly. The day smelt beautiful with all the fresh flower and herb arrangements on the tables and around the house.
The fresh flower arch on the church was breathtakingly beautiful. I requested big organza bows on our pew ends to fit the soft romantic feel and they looked stunning.

I was so excited when the flowers arrived on the morning of the wedding- seeing my bouquet and my flower girls fresh flower head band and wand was wonderful.

Our bridesmaids are stunning ladies and I wanted a dress to compliment all of their different builds and heights! The colour of our Coast full length dresses matched our day perfectly- the grey had almost a pearly pink shine to them and they looked stunning with the pale pink
Bridesmaid bouquets. Their dresses were accessorised with No.1 by Jenny Packham for Debenhams drop earrings and a hair comb to add a simple sparkle. The shoes were added to match to the colour of the dress and as they were full length I liked the idea of the shoes just giving a glimmer of fun and sparkle as the peeped through the dress. The bridesmaid dresses and shoes fitted perfectly with the mercury effect and flowers that accented the day.

We gave our bridesmaids Cath Kidston floral robes to wear whilst getting ready and this really helped us enjoy our girly morning in comfort. I love wearing my robe now as it holds such lovely memories.

Our flower girl wore a dress in ivory from John Lewis and shoes from Next – a head band of fresh flowers and a fresh flower wand from The Real Flower Company completed her look.

Luke’s groomsmen had been friends with him since infant school so it was a lovely moment for them to all be suited and booted together on such a special day. They wore pale grey suits from Peter Posh and had silver/grey ties with silver pocket squares. They were gifted various Paul Smith cufflinks from us to match their personalities.

Getting married at St Peter’s Church was so very special- I was in the choir there as a child and had always thought to myself whilst singing at others weddings that one day I hoped it would be me. As soon as we approached the church I started to cry in the car, the day we had planned for so long came true. My mum and sister made wedding planning so much fun and it was a true labour of love. I walked up the aisle to Ava Maria sung by a soloist from the church choir.
The vicar that married us actually christened Luke and added lots of stories of how we met at college as a couple. Luke’s Uncle read Corinthians 1. 13 and my Auntie chose to read the poem -Touch the Air Softly by William Jay Smith .My Uncle played the piano and played an instrumental version of ‘Greatest Day’ whilst we signed the register- his piano playing will forever be part of the day, especially as when we were getting ready at Hill Place he kept playing tunes on the piano in the sitting room there.

During our champagne and canapé reception on the lawn we had the Bossard Quartet who played a brilliant range of modern songs ranging from The Beatles to Elbow on their strings. It was lovely to walk out to the lawn to greet all our guests with the beautiful sounds of ‘One Day Like This’ and ‘A Million Love Songs’ floating through the air.

In the evening we were lucky to discover the amazing Freddie and The Freeloaders – they are a soul band and kept the dance floor filled all night. They really made the day a true party and they really kicked the evening reception off with a beautiful version of ‘For Lovers’ as our first dance. Finding the perfect evening band was a priority for us as we wanted all our guests to have fun and be able to relax- music brings people together and Freddie and The Freeloaders did it fantastically.

Luke and I love good food and as soon as we tasted Vanilla Catering’s amazing menu we knew they were the caterers for us. We loved the fact they were happy to run a bar for us in which we could provide the alcohol so we could offer our guests an open bar with all their favourite drinks.

Guests were treated to

  • Confit Pork Belly Crispy Balls with Sweet & Sour Dip
  • Panko Prawns with a Soy & Ginger Dip
  • Parmesan & Rosemary Shortbread with Sundried Tomato & Feta Cheese
  • Sugar Cured Beef Fillet with Pomelo, Mint & Thai Basil

  • Plum Tomato & Laverstoke Mozzarella stack with Balsamic Pearls & Basil Crisps

    Main Course

  • Braised Beef Blade with Horseradish & Parsley Mash, Beetroot Jus, Candied Shallots & Green Beans.
  • Savoury Gateau of Green Olive & Smoked Garlic Polenta with Roasted Red Peppers, Courgettes & Provolone, Baby Aubergines, Fennel & Ricotta Cream (v)

  • Lemon & Poppy Seed Parfait with Raspberry Daiquiri Jelly, Dried Raspberry & Tonka Bean Tuille

Then in the evening guests enjoyed a Hog roast, local cheese and biscuits and mini desserts (Tiramisu, trifle, lemon posset and chocolate orange).

The caterers told us we would have too much food- but we knew our friends and family love to eat and everything was eaten on the day. The food was just too delicious not to enjoy.

The cake was designed and made by Izzy Pink. Izzy and I went to school together and have been friends since Pre School so she was our only choice. Izzy met with us and designed the cake based on our vision for the day. It not only looked stunning but tasted delicious. We saved the top fruit tier but the other tiers of fruit cake, chocolate cake and lemon cake all went (we served it with the mini desserts in the evening and put some in individual boxes for guests to take home). Izzy also made us iced heart biscuits in our wedding colours that were wrapped in cellophane with individual labels from Label Amour for guests to take home.

Luke and I were so pleased to find Hayley. Neither of us like having our photograph taken and we wanted someone who would capture the feeling of the day. Hayley’s photography captures emotions and after looking through her website we knew we had to book her. Once we met with Hayley we felt so relaxed- nothing was too much for Hayley in the build up to the wedding- she wanted all the details so she could capture everything. On the day Hayley was a member of the family- never intrusive but truly a wonderful part of our day. The photographs are such a perfect memory of our wedding, capturing every emotion. I wouldn’t hesitate Hayley- a true professional!

I was a very nervous bride- the whole way through planning I worried about pleasing everyone. However you have to remember everyone on the day will be happy because you are happy and they are there to celebrate with you. On the day let all your worries go and enjoy every moment as it is over so quickly- it truly is the best feeling to be with everyone you love. Enjoy every planning decision and event. Involve your family and friends in the planning- the time I spent with my family and friends- especially my mum, sister and Luke in the eighteen months before the wedding was priceless- we made every wedding prep day a special day and now have memories to last a lifetime.
