Venue

Hollie the Bride: It’s so lovely to write this and reflect on what really was the best day ever! My husband and I (after 9 months, this still sounds weird!) were engaged for over 2 years and spent much of that time planning our wedding – however, we had our incredible venue Iscoyd Park booked in as soon as we could. I remember going on a location to Iscoyd Park with my job about 2 years before we got engaged and thinking – if Chris ever pops the question, I want to get married here! Luckily he did… and luckily when we went back Chris loved it as much as I did – as did my Mum, Dad, Sister… the list goes on. It really is the most beautiful venue and everything about it makes me smile every time I think about it. Will, our wedding coordinator was absolutely fantastic and looked after us from start to finish. We chose May Bank Holiday to get married and we were lucky with the weather – the gardens looked absolutely beautiful.

Photographer

Jo Bradbury, our photographer captured our day perfectly, we wanted a very romantic and classic feel to the day and Jo’s beautiful photographs are a reflection of this.

Colour Scheme

We decided on our colour theme and style quite early on, our venue definitely lead the classic and romantic style we wanted. We went for soft, blush colours that ran through our invites, bridal party, flowers and room décor.

Decor

We had an amazing flower wall from Petals in Love as our top table back drop and it looked beautiful in the marquee setting. The amazing Selina Godsal who is based at Iscoyd Park did our flowers, she dressed the room beautifully and the bouquets were amazing!

Dress

Before I went dress shopping, I didn’t have a clue what style of dress I would go for. So many people had said to me ‘you will go for the total opposite of what you’re even thinking’ and that was true! I went on a trip to London with my Mum and Sister (Maid of Honour) to go and try on some dresses and absolutely fell in love with my dress as soon as I walked out of the changing room. The dress was Alvina Valenta from Les Trois Seours Bridal in Canary Wharf. I wanted something different in terms of the colour and so glad I went with my gut! I also got my veil from there, which was made to match the tulle in the dress; it was a pretty long veil! I have a real-life fairy godmother who bought me my wedding shoes, they were Jimmy Choo and I absolutely loved and still love them! I got the grip for my hair from ‘not on the high street’ which matched the ones we got the bridesmaids and flower girls. The earrings I wore are my Nanas and they were my something old and borrowed.

Bridesmaids

Having six bridesmaids… we had a bit of a challenge on our hands to find a style to suit them all and that they would be happy and comfortable in. We got the dresses from ASOS who have an amazing selection of bridesmaid dresses!

Grooms Suit

Chris knew from the start that he wanted a black tuxedo for the wedding day. After trying on quite a few suits, he decided on a DKNY suit with a velvet horseshoe waistcoat & matching bow tie. For his wedding shoes, he wore Christian Louboutin. We hired the groomsmen’s suits from Moss Bros. – the horseshoe waistcoats were a very last-minute addition to their outfits but we were so glad we made the decision to go for it!

Entertainment

For the ceremony, we had The Dotted Crotchets string trio playing as I walked down the aisle. They then continued the music outside during the drinks reception.

DIY

There were some elements to the day that we did DIY. We did the place settings as wine glass tags and table numbers that were relevant to our time together. Our table plan was set on a 6ft white tree, which is my Auntie Pam’s – I have always loved the tree and we thought it would be something a bit different. Our cake was made by one of our close friends Caroline – she did an absolutely amazing job, not to mention she was 8 months pregnant at the time! With Chris being a proud Yorkshireman and not so much a sweet tooth, we had a pork pie wedding cake that was sourced by our caterers – it went down really well in the evening as part of the evening food.

Catering

Our caterers – The Fine Dining Company - were absolutely brilliant and the food was outstanding. For canapés, we went for mini Yorkshire pudding, all-day breakfast, mini fish and chips, halloumi chips and sun-dried tomato bruschetta. For our wedding breakfast, we had crispy chicken bon bons with tabouleh starter, slow-cooked beef for main and a salted caramel and dark chocolate delice for dessert. For our evening food, we wanted to keep it really casual as we didn’t want the party to stop! So we had his and hers wood-fired pizzas which were delicious! Between our wedding breakfast and the evening reception starting we had cocktail hour with his and hers cocktails – this is something we really wanted for and saved for and we are really pleased we did it. It took away the gap between the meal ending and the evening entertainment beginning.

Entertainment

We had The Full House at night and they were absolutely brilliant – I don’t think anyone wanted them to stop! I can’t listen to ‘Hey Jude’ anymore without a big smile on my face.

Advice

If we were to give any advice to bride and grooms to be – it would be to decide on what you definitely want on the wedding day and don’t compromise on those things. Smaller things will become irrelevant on the day but if you want something – go for it! Also, enjoy the build-up, as the wedding blues are real!
