I’ll Hold You For The Rest Of My Life

Cover-Image

Gem and Rob had a beautiful and simple contemporary wedding with a calming subtle blue colour scheme. They celebrated their big day earlier in the year on a perfect Welsh spring morning and the affair was documented in style by dynamic Welsh duo O&C Photography.

The Dress

Gem The Bride:My dress was by Balta by Pronovias (Balta) and was purchased from Allison Jayne, Cardiff. Both my veil and hair accessory was also purchased from Allison Jayne.

Day & Night

I chose to get mid-heels so I could wear the same pair for both day and night. My shoes were blue suede courts from Nine West.

Pale & Interesting

Make-up was kept simple – I wanted to look fresh and spring like! An old school friend (who is also a qualified make-up artist) who knows me well did the bridal make up plus all the bridesmaids and mother of the bride. I was keen to embrace the pale and interesting look (no fake tan in sight!)

Spring Fresh

I entrusted a good friend to do my flowers. She is a super talented florist based in North Wales. I gave her a simple brief – spring like, fresh, natural with a few freesias (my Grandmothers favourite flower). Florist: Andrea Jones at Lunaflower.

The Fashion

All the suits were purchased – we wanted both the bridesmaids and groomsmen to have an item of clothing they could essentially wear again. Dresses were from Adrianna Papell at House of Fraser, while the suits were from H&M (bargains!)

Suited & Booted

The handsome groom wore a Hugo Boss suit. Shirt by Pretty Green and blue desert boots from Clarks.

Naturally Captured

We hired the fabulous couple O&C Photography to capture our day. Owen and Charis took the wedding photos for a best friend of mine in 2011 and we loved their work. We wanted the day to be captured as naturally as possible and we knew O&C would do exactly that.

The Cake

Cupcakes all the way! Again, I knew a lovely lady who enjoys cake making when she is not slaving away at her computer. Bethan Jones is well known by my younger sister (they work together) and she came highly recommended by my sister Jess. We wanted the colours to reflect those we were having in the bouquets – muted colours with a variety of flavours (chocolate, vanilla and lemon). The flags were made by my sister (and cut and glued by my poor sister the day before the wedding!) and the cake wrappers were from etsy.com.

I Will Rock You

We hired a harpist for the wedding ceremony and immediately afterwards. Unknown to me before the wedding, he also sang after the grooms speech which brought a tear or two to my eyes. For the evening entertainment, we hired a brilliant 4 piece band called i-rock.

Calico Skies

The first dance was a Paul McCartney number called Calico Skies. Rob played this to me when we were on our way home from New York. We had just got engaged and were waiting in the departure lounge sharing a pair of headphones. The lyrics are just lovely.

DIY

My super talented Mum made our vintage hearts. Llangoed Hall used to be the home of Laura and Bernard Ashley so we felt it would be a good touch to use some fabric from her range. For the boys, Rob and I made a huge batch of Welsh cakes a few days before the wedding and made individual gift bags for the men to munch on.

Memories

The Orange room (where we had our breakfast and evening ceremony) had two large Welsh dressers. We thought it would be a nice touch to place old photographs and memories on these. We had a lot of fun, laughs and tears looking through all the old photos. We both felt it was important to have photos of those special family members who had passed away represented on our day.

A Joint Effort

Every bride and groom will tell you that their day was fantastic and the best day of their lives and ours certainly was. But what made it truly special for us was seeing all our family and guests happy – happy to be there and truly happy for us. The wedding was the first project Rob and I undertook together and we enjoyed every minute of it.

      1. Me three, i was just about to say the same, the wedding has wonderful tones and colours but those dresses are gorgeous…do we know which designer they are from? Look like a wonderfully fun and elegant wedding.

        1. They are Adrianna Papell – just had a quick snoop on the House of Fraser website and they’ve got loads of beauties!!

    1. Me too. I am actually jealous – the colours are dreamy and I never would have thought of them myself I don’t think. The bouquets are some of the most spectacular I’ve seen anywhere in W-day world.
