For Me ‘The Beatles’ bring back memories of family holidays circa 1988, everyone singing along to Rubber Soul as the Ford Escort desperately tries heave its cargo to the summit of porlock hill. Then there are snap shots of playing in bands at high school, trying to nail the solo to “I Saw Her Standing There” in the music room after class. The list goes on. Music and memories intertwine and become one and if a band like The Beatles have played a part in your history then the venue choice of Rhian and John will certainly bring back some happy memories.
Magical Mystery Tour
Rhian The Bride: We decided on the Hard Days Night as we are both huuuuge Beatles fans and couldn’t decide on anywhere close to home, so thought we’d take everyone away on a magical mystery tour to Liverpool. The hotel was perfect for us from the cool styling and Beatles decor. The Lennon suite was amaaaazing with its white piano and balcony that stretched right round the corner of the building! Coincidentally we got married on 50th anniversary of the Beatles.
Can’t Buy Me Love
My dress was from the House of Mooshki. I had only been to one shop to try dresses and they were all pretty disgusting and not me at all. The staff didn’t understand the look I wanted and I left the boutique feeling pretty deflated. I thought I’d try my luck at a vintage wedding fayre in Harrogate where I tried on a few gowns and ended up buying a vintage number. I felt slightly pressured in to buying it just because it was only £300 and I knew that I couldn’t exactly walk into a bridal shop to buy what I wanted. As we were driving back home with the dress I knew it wasn’t for me, as beautiful as it was. I’d already been in touch with House of Mooshki to make enquiries after being recommended to them by a mutual friend and had a gut feeling they were going to make my perfect dress. I took the vintage dress to Vikki to see if she could fix it up a bit but just knew I wouldn’t be wearing this dress on my wedding day. So one day whilst Googling dresses I came across an amazing polka dot dress and got straight in touch with Vikki asking if she could make me a dress incorporating the spotty fabric for me.
For You Blue
When I arrived at Mooshki for my appointment, there stood in front of me was a long version of the exact dress that I wanted. Spotty tulle fabric, elbow length sleeves, big tulle skirt… I could hardly believe it! I knew I wanted the dress to be tea length and making the dress shorter was not a problem. I changed a few details of the dress to make it more in keeping with my personality and style. As John was in the RAF, I wanted to keep a blue theme running throughout to match his very dashing uniform, so we added a blue belt with a bow to the dress and as daisies are my favourite flower, Mooshki managed to find some Daisy lace to add to the trim of the dress. My first dress fitting was my last fitting as the dress was that perfect a fit as it had been completely made to measure. It fit like a dream and I stood and swooshed with my custom made ruffle petticoat under it for hours with my sparkly blue shoes.
Do You Want To Know A Secret
I bought most of my accessories from Etsy and Ebay, the headband was £10 off Ebay and the earrings £2.99 off Etsy. I also got the bridesmaids jewellery from Etsy. My garter was an original Mary Quant bought from a vintage wedding fayre in Harrogate. My beautiful bracelet however was a surprise gift off the groom from Tiffany’s eek!
My amazing blue glittery shoes were from Schuh. I don’t do normal so the sparklier the better and knowing I was having a tea length dress I knew they had to be special! Peaches and Cream did all of the bridal party hair and makeup, not being from Liverpool I didn’t know who to trust, but everyone I asked recommended Peaches and Cream, they did an absolutely amazing job and they are such lovely girls! I wanted a specific look so i took some photos along to my hair and makeup trial and they copied the looks perfectly. I’ll definitely be popping in for my hair done next time I have a weekend in Liverpool!
I made the flowers myself with help from my mam. I fancied something a little different and have never been overly fond of paying a fortune on something that dies within a day. I had an idea to make flowers from Beatles sheet music, pearls, buttons and feathers. I made my bouquet adding in blackbirds & bluebirds as blackbird is one of my favourite Beatles songs and have it tattooed on my ribs, I also did the bridesmaid posies, the buttonholes which i added Beatles plectrums to, and all the centre pieces putting the flowers in teacups & coffeepots, all in all it cost just over £100 and I get to keep them forever.
7. When it came to the bridesmaids dresses I was struggling a lot finding something to fit with the style of wedding I wanted and that matched in with my dress. Again I thought I’d try my luck asking House of Mooshki if they could make something that would suit all the bridesmaids and yet still fit in with the RAF blue wedding theme and the Audrey style of my dress. I described the style I wanted and they totally exceeded my expectations, they were so beautiful and perfect for what I wanted. I may even snaffle one off my bridesmaids to wear myself!
The groomsmen luckily are all in the RAF with John so they all wore their uniforms. My brother however was an usher and I managed to find a perfect colour match 60’s style Lambretta suit which I also bought for my dad from Moss Bros. The pointy chelsea boots were from ebay. John wore his RAF uniform, he has been a RAF Fire-fighter for 6 years and decided to proudly wear the uniform on our wedding day. He looks so smart in it and he stood out from the groomsmen by wearing his white belt and gloves and of course the quirky buttonhole I made for him.
I Saw The Photograph
I found Raw Photography via a wedding blog whilst looking for Beatles Wedding Ideas. I fell in love with their photos straight away and emailed to see if they were available and praise the heavens they were! I met with Kenny & Helen the day after booking the venue and after seeing how ridiculously cool they were I knew they’d capture our day perfectly. We met with Kenny for our ferry across the Mersey pre-wedding shoot and had so much fun he totally put us at ease! They were both brilliant on the day, all of the guests said how fab they were. My mam made one comment while we were getting ready asking if Helen had left when actually she was just quietly stood behind a lamp in the corner catching us all naturally. We had so much fun with them both and the pictures are the best I’ve ever seen, I can’t praise them enough!
All You Need Is Love
Lizzies Larder made my cake. I found Lizzie at a wedding fayre at the Hard Days Night Hotel and after tasting one of her cupcakes booked her on the spot. I didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, I wanted bright, loud and Beatles and after showing her a photo of what I wanted Lizzie worked her magic and The All You Need Is Love cake was perfect, we had 4 tiers of chocolate, lemon, plain & fruit it was sooo delicious!! For entertainment we had a caricaturist for during the day called Mickey Toones. We had a gap where we would be getting photos taken and didn’t want the guests to get restless Mike was brilliant and provided plenty of laughs with his hilarious drawings.
For the night we wanted a band, it took forever scouring the internet looking for a Beatles tribute and accidently stumbled across a rock n roll rockabilly band called The Troubleshooters, they were totally different from what we originally wanted but their videos on YouTube sealed the deal and booked them straight away. We are both huge fans of 50’s & 60’s music and they were absolutely fantastic and had everyone up dancing, I just wish I’d learned to jive properly beforehand!
I’ll Never Dance With Another
Our first dance was Grow Old With You by Adam Sandler from the movie The Wedding Singer… The lyrics said it all for us! Our favours were little green apples (in keeping with the Beatles Apples Corps) with British Heart Foundation pin badges inside. The BHF is a charity close to both me and John. Our table names were made from vinyl records with apples centres with Beatles song names made by The Paperdoll who also made our Beatles themed table plan.
Tangerine Trees & Marshmallow Skies
My Wonka candy table was my pride and joy, It’s my favourite movie and I spent hours searching shops and the internet for Wonka related sweets. We had lickable wallpaper, snozzberries, everlasting gobstoppers, beef & blueberry bubblegum along with giant gummy bears and whirly pops. I even made my own wonka bars! It went down a storm and got absolutely demolished…job done!
The only advice I’d give is don’t stick to what you think a wedding should be or what people tell you, incorporate your personality in to it and make it “you”, you only do it once! So many people looked at me strangely when I told them my plans and then when they saw the outcome were totally convinced!

John Lennon once said that all you need is love… But he also said I am the eggman, we are the eggman, I am the Walrus goo goo ga joob… So I’m not sure that you should pay all that much attention to him.
I would like to elaborate on Mr Lennon’s words ever so slightly if I may – All you need is Love… A polka dot dress, your boy in a uniform, a crazy cake creation and a drop dead gorgeous venue.
Admittedly my version doesn’t scan quite as well.
