Jodi & Michael

This afternoon’s Groom Michael races motorbikes for a living in the MotoGP & British Superbike Championships, and so his lovely Bride Jodi travels with him around the world for 9 months of the year…sounds like the perfect opportunity for wedding planning to us!! We bet Jodi spent a lot of time in airports & hotels pinning away and dreaming up ideas while looking at RMW

Being a graphic designer, Jodi wanted to create all the little details herself, and so she did just that – practically everything you see was made or sourced by Jodi. The wedding theme was old Hollywood glamour meets modern sparkle – sounds like fun to us!! Jodi also created an epic wedding website which worked really well as they had guests traveling to their wedding from all corners of the globe – Jodi included all the important details for the wedding in one easy to access place.

It’s a super glamorous day that looks like it was super fun too – and there’s a dinky little pooch to put a smile on your face. Ready? I’ll pass you over to Jodi…

The Dress

Jodi The Bride: I started the hunt for my perfect dress with my Mum, Sam, in New York which was an experience of a lifetime. I later found my dress much closer to home at Shropshire Country Brides. I knew I wanted lace & after trying on every style possible, I soon realised that the mermaid cut was perfect to flatter my figure. I had my belt custom made which I absolutely adored. It added my personality to the dress with the sparkles & a silk bow which trailed to the floor at the back. My Cathedral length veil was a gift from my brother, Chaz, which made it all the more special – I purchased in Vera Wang New York.

The Groom

Michael wanted a tailored suit he could keep. He is an athlete (professional Motorcycle racer) and it’s usually difficult to find a great fitting suit as he’s a very slight build but muscly too. The Kooples in Selfridges, Birmingham did a fab 3 piece black suit which they tailored to Michaels build.

The Venue

St.Andrews church is our beautiful church in the Welsh border town of Presteigne. Just 5 minutes from where we live, I had always dreamed of getting married here. I arrived in a black Rolls-Royce Phantom. The reception venue was at my family home just 2 miles away. I always wanted the reception at home & we are lucky to have 360 acres of land, we decided to have our Henmans Marquee in front of the house. We made the house and driveway a feature by using ice white uplighters which really set the wintry scene.

The Decor

Our colour scheme was black, ivory & silver. I wanted Gatsby Glamour with a touch of contemporary elegance. This was my favourite part of the whole planning process! I’m a Graphic Designer so this was where I got to put my skills to use. I designed, printed & made all of our stationery, created our wedding website which was great as we had guests coming from all corners of the globe – I used it as a hub of information for everyone. I really liked a lot of elements of American weddings so I had to import a lot of items & have many things custom-made for me. I had my linen & my glass beaded charger plates made to order in China, my cake stand was also handmade in the USA. I have a vinyl printing machine for work so I had great fun designing all sorts of stickers, labels & signs for the big day. Everyone loved their chosen menu with their names on underneath the charger plates – which also doubled up as place names.

The Flowers

The Hibiscus Room created the Bridal Party bouquets & buttonholes, bouquets were hand tied white hydrangea, peonies, ranunculus, buttonholes were ranunculus. Local florists Sarah Chilman & Sharna Lewis did an exquisite job of our church arrangements, they were out of this world & nothing like they had ever done before. Lots of ivy, twisted willow, aisle petals, candles in the alcoves, the ambience in the church on that cold winters day was incredible. I had white wooden pedestals made by a local carpenter & bought old urns which I painted with antique white chalk paint to hold the large displays. The confetti – dried hydrangea petals – was from Shropshire Petals.

The Wedding Party

My five Bridesmaids wore elegant full length black lace by Mori Lee which I purchased on our shopping trip to NYC. Flower Girl dresses were from BHS. Michael’s five Groomsmen were in Next 3-piece black suits. Mother of the Bride, Sam – My Mum wanted full length glamour, also in black. She looked absolutely incredible. Her dress had lace detailing & also a small train at the back, also purchased in New York.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was just perfect. I couldn’t wait to see Michael standing there at the bottom of the aisle. My Dad, Peter, walked me down the aisle to Pachelbel Canon in D played by our harpist which was just magical! All of my nerves had gone & it felt like it was just Michael & I in there, the sun beaming through the beautiful stained glass windows, a moment a will never forget. My Sister-in-Law Leona Laverty read “The Gift of Love” 1 Corinthians 13, Hereford Soul Choir gave an extra boost to our chosen Hymns & sang “O Happy Day” acapella for us to walk out, AMAZING! They also gathered to sing in the Church yard whilst the photos were being taken which everybody said was a nice touch.

The Entertainment

I did a lot of research into choosing our wedding band & eventually decided on Hipster based on their reputation & reviews. They certainly didn’t disappoint & played a variety of genres & a mixture songs from the 60’s to current chart toppers – which was great.

The Catering

Our fabulous caterers (Purple Carrot) allowed us to create a menu to suit our tastes. I’m vegetarian & we both love Italian food so we came up with something together. It was a bit of a gamble as a lot of our guests would be very traditional in that respect but it went down a treat, everyone absolutely loved it & said they would never have chosen something like that on a menu before! Desserts were a trio of our favourite things – zingy lemon tart, scones with strawberries/clotted cream & chocolate praline torte. We then had heart shaped welsh cakes & lindt balls with coffee.
The cake was a five-tier white iced, traditional round cake with lace icing detailing. Simple & stunning. Made by one of my friends “Cakes by Char”.

The Photography

We decided on local photographer Gemma Williams based on her style. We attended a lot of wedding fayres & she was a vendor at many of them & I just kept coming back to her. She was great, really discreet too, I barely even noticed her snapping away all day/night. She captured things I hadn’t even noticed & her photos are really natural.

The Videography

Aurora Wedding Films are based in South Wales. I wanted videographer with a modern edge, I really liked the way they pieced their footage together and they didn’t disappoint. They use a remote controlled drone to film footage from the sky which really adds an amazing twist to the final footage.
