WOW, just wow! The fashion, the views, the decor, everything is just SO, so beautiful! I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I think if I was to do it all again THIS stunning destination wedding in Italy would be the day I would choose.
I mean seriously could you imagine getting married on a hill top and then sitting down to your al fresco dinner at that beautiful table setting with picturesque views that just go on for miles. It’s just fairytale stuff isn’t it. And as if it wasn’t perfect enough already but later enjoying the warm evening sun surrounded by romantic candle and festoon lights.
I haven’t even got to the fashion yet! Our gorgeous Bride Julie looks so elegant in her Anoushka G embellished gown, perfectly twinkling in the sun & romantic candle light and her best girls, well they look stunning by her side in white lace Coast dresses. Our very stylish Groom looks very dapper too in his bespoke tailored three piece navy suit from Norton & Townsend, perfectly accessorised with pocket watch.
Some serious swooning was going on whilst I was putting this together for you lovely lot, I just know you’re going to LOVE it!
Julie The Bride: I was conscious that getting married in Italy in June it may be a bit on the warm side (which it was!) so I wanted something that would be comfortable on the day and quite light but still look glamorous and gorgeous. I tried on so many dress and just when I thought I would never find “the one”, I fell in love with the Anoushka G dress. It was simple and fitted in cut, but beautifully embellished which I thought would look stunning in the sun. The embellishment made it quite heavy to wear, but I was won over by it regardless, so decided to buy a second dress for the evening so I could dance the night away feeling coo,l but still feel glamorous…this was one of the best decision I made! My evening dress was a bargain from Miss Selfridge too which made it even better.
The Grooms Attire
Dean thought the wedding would be the perfect opportunity to treat himself and get a bespoke suit made. He found Norton & Townsend on the internet as they were reasonably local to us. The service was incredible and he loved picking every aspect of his suit from fit to the lining and trims! We opted for a really light blushing pink colour for the ties to tie in with the rest of the soft pastel colour palette and he picked a really smart pair of black patent Ted Baker shoes to go with it.
We had our hearts set on an intimate do with just our closest friends and family. We struggled to find anywhere in the UK that could accommodate a party of 40 in peak season, so decided to go back to the drawing board. We got engaged in Venice and we love Italy so it already had a special place in our hearts, so we decided to scope out options! We explored various villas on the internet with a plan of when we find a few, we’ll plan a short visit to check them out. We found one, Borgo di Bastia Creti, which was the perfect size for our group and the pictures on the website looked absolutely breath-taking. With only this one as a potential runner, we booked our flights to take a visit. The moment our eyes clapped eyes on the surrounding views and the beautiful building that oozed character we knew we had made the right decision. We decided to hold the legal ceremony in a nearby medieval hilltop town called Montone where we said “I do” under the cloisters at the intimate entrance of the local museum.
Given the already beautiful backdrop of Borgo di Bastia Creti and Montone, we didn’t feel like we needed to do much to improve what was already there! We opted for a soft light pastel colour palette to compliment the (hopefully) sunny day! This followed through in flowers, grooms ties and Bridesmaids dresses and accessories.
Pinterest became my best friend during the wedding planning process. I sent boards to our wedding planner from Salve Umbria who made our vision a reality. On the centre of the table, we went for a rustic green runner with herbs such as Rosemary and olive leaves broken up with some candles and tea lights.
I wanted the bouquets to be quite loose and rustic. This was carried through in the bouquets too.
The Wedding Party Fashion
I had seen a feature on Rock My Wedding about ivory Bridesmaid dresses and had my heart set on them ever since! I found these pretty lace dresses in Coast – they were an instant winner. All the 3 ladies loved them and they were also cool and comfortable for them on the day, which was an added bonus. Trying to think practically, that a lot of the wedding day would be outdoors and on grass, I found the nude chunky (and sparkly!) heeled shoes in the New Look sale…at £11 each and available in all 3 sizes, they quickly got bought! The Groomsmen had light blue/grey suits which complemented Dean’s suit nicely. They wore the same matching blush pink tie as Dean. The boys all had pocket squares, which a friend of a friend kindly embroidered for us with their initials and the date of the wedding.
My chief Bridesmaid Sam did a reading for us which was so beautiful. I had asked her to choose her own reading as felt that was more personal rather than pick one for her to read. She did a combination of a reading and some verses which she found on an anniversary card of her Grandparents who have been together for many years. This was really special and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house!
Salve Umbria sourced our DJ for us; Betty DJ. She played a chilled but funky mix of well-known songs but with a jazzy/latino twist for the drinks reception, which created a great atmosphere. She also played well into the evening too where the music ramped up ready for the dancing! We had been to a friend’s wedding and they had glow sticks in the evening; we loved this idea so decided to pinch it J (we of course asked them first!), I saved some jam jars and stuck ‘G L O W’ on to each one. Really cheap and simple but they looked great. We also bought a polaroid camera and I made a sign so guests could take selfies and stick them in our guest book – really glad we did this as we have some very funny photos in our book!
All the food was done by Appolinare who Salve Umbria had recommended. The food was nothing short of incredible!! Everything was seasonal and fresh. With us getting married in Italy, we really wanted the full Italian wedding feast experience, and we certainly got it! We had a buffet later in the afternoon which included local cured meats and cheeses as well as salads and pasta dishes. Our guests were blown away by how good the food was. We then sat down earlier in the evening where we had a pasta course of pea and mint ravioli and a main meal of quail stuffed with radicchio. The desserts were served in the buffet style so guests could mingle and try a few different desserts. There was coffee panna cotta, chocolate mousse and tiramisu. They also made our wedding cake fresh on site that day, we had gone for a traditional Italian wedding cake of mille feuille with layers of custard, fresh cream and seasonal fruits.
Photography was top of our wedding priority list; right above food! Your photos are the one thing you have to look back on to remember the day so it was important to us to find someone with the style we wanted, but also someone we could have a rapport with on the day. We knew as soon as we found M & J that they were exactly what we wanted. Their style was natural and soft and documented the moments of our day perfectly. We had looked at quite a few Italian photographers but found they all had a very fashion magazine/posed style which wasn’t what we were looking for. We are over the moon with our photos and continue to get that warm fuzzy feeling every time we look at them and remember what a truly amazing day it was.
