If we close our eyes, click our heels together three times and repeat ‘there’s no place like Koh Samui’ do you think we’ll be transported there?! I definitely think it’s worth a try. Especially if we get to immerse ourselves in beautiful blue ocean and feel white sand between our toes…hopefully, we’ll end up at The W Retreat, in the midst of Kelly and Andrew’s wedding…
The whole day reflected Kelly’s dress finding ethos – she wanted something with no fuss, that wasn’t traditional, and I think she looks gorgeous (as does the wedding). She’s also sporting an absolutely stunning bronze eye shadow – perfect for glamming up a beachy boho look.
Kelly The Bride: I had originally purchased a designer dress but just felt like it wasn’t me at all, I just wanted to be me on the day – no fuss, not traditional, I just wanted something that I could relax in and enjoy the evening. I wore a Pandora bracelet given to me by the bridesmaids.
The Tag watch was Andy’s engagement gift, fashion was beach casual.
I was looking all over Thailand for a location with the wow factor. After researching the beach locations, none really ticked all the boxes so I resorted to googling the images of beach weddings without knowing the location in Thailand. I found The W Retreat and knew straight away that was the location.
The Wedding Party
For the girls I just wanted fun light colours to go with the beach and stand out. For the boys just a beachy relaxed scheme. The girls outfits were made in Thailand.
I didn’t want a bouquet but my mom and sister were not impressed so I compromised with a jewel bouquet and my sister organised the bridesmaid bouquets with JJ (wedding co-ordinator at the W) as I am not a fan of flowers.
Ian had photographed my friends wedding and I remembered thinking how much character, emotion and creativity her images had. I chose Ian because he goes that one step further, is passionate about his work and really got excited about the whole process of travelling to shoot a destination wedding, even suggesting something totally radical like the underwater shoot!!! We loved it so much!
Don’t over think it – include things that are important to you both – as soon as you try to please everyone else, you lose sight of the whole purpose and stress creeps in. Keep it simple and surround yourself with things that have a personal touch.
