Inspiration

This may be a Winter wedding, but it's seriously hot. In fact, the first thing that entered my mind was 'kissing hell' as Carla Blain Photography does what she does best and captures some incredibly intimate moments between this adorable couple. She also manages to capture bride Robyn's delicate lace wedding dress to perfection, with dappled light glistening through the detail and making this glamourous couple look like Hollywood starlets in their black-tie attire.

What Made Our Day Unique

Other than the fact that our wedding weekend (very luckily) fell on the February heatwave weekend, our wedding day was unique for us in a number of ways. It was a sunny day and we were married in a local church, a tradition that does not seem to be as popular as it once was (we are very much the first to have a church wedding of any friends) and it was special because so many families came together, some for the first time - from South Africa, Canada and USA to be there. With my family being part south African, we featured soft notes to celebrate my heritage with King Protea's (the national flower) dotted around. Every moment of the day was curated, planned and specially thought by Adam and I, with our overall goal: To fill a room with love, laughter, joy and a little bit (too much) fizz - reflective of our own relationship.

Lace Wedding Dress

A lace wedding dress has to be one of the most popular choices of wedding gowns available to brides. Especially as they come in an array of styles and finishes including chantilly lace, 3D corded lace, heavier guipure lace, boho knitted lace, patterned embroidered lace and vintage feel metallic lace. Bride Robyn's The Eleni, Wed2B gown in particular features a beautiful illusion back detail with buttons, is embellished with pearls and comes in a gorgeous fishtail silhouette fitting her like a glove and flattering her every curve, so much so groom Adam couldn't control his excitement as they married in the church, fist-bumping the air and looking around at his family with the biggest grin.

Inspiration & Styling

I'd describe our wedding style as romantic, luxe-botanical and minimalist. Our colour scheme was natural foliage with accents of gold, green, burgundy and grey. I fell in love with a shoot on RMW and by luck, I found the exact grey table numbers used on a selling site and went from there in styling around them. I also took inspo from Pinterest to mix my palette adding brass gold antiques in; from candlesticks, trolley dollies, gold-rimmed glassware and charger plates as well as soft furnishes. Northbrook Park was a PERFECT blank canvas to bring our vision to life. It was light, airy with high ceilings, a grand fireplace, pale stone floors and the Orangery filled wall-to-wall with green vines. Our florist, Moutan, filled the space with oversized, whimsical foliage to compliment my vision. Being a Winter wedding, we hung fairy lights EVERYWHERE (inside and out), adding candles and oversized brass lanterns to bring a soft, warm and relaxing vibe.

Bride Robyn (in her words) stalked our real weddings and styled shoots for inspiration. Which is where she found her Photographer Carla Blain and went on to book her that very week!
