Well just as delicious as her cakes is Rachel and Richard’s’ bright and colourful Big Day which was captured by the lovely Zoe Collyer whom Rachel found on this very blog.
We love a RMW love story so we do.
Two For One
Ah, the shoes! I knew I wanted something colourful and high, so I went with a beautiful pair of 4 inch purple peep toes from LK Bennett. Although I broke them in before the wedding, I did struggle with them on the day, and halfway through I ended up changing them for my trusty red Melissa for Vivienne Westwood peep toe slingbacks – much more comfortable!
Sultry Spanish Eyes
I decided on an updo for the day, and Norbert from Toni & Guy in Winchester did an amazing job. We went for Spanish-y vibe with big curls pinned up on one side.
My hair lasted all day and I didn’t have to worry about it at all. I meant to take it down for the evening, but completely forgot to on the day!
I felt comfortable enough to do my own make up, and wanted to have my usual smoky eyes so a few weeks before I had a lesson at Bobbi Brown and bought lots and lots (oops!) of lovely new stuff. I was really pleased with it on the day, and my eye make up didn’t budge all night – ladies, I highly recommend the Long-Wear Cream Shadow (I used, Galaxy, Steel and Goldstone).
I’m not a French manicure girl, so I went with purple to match my shoes on my fingers and then had Minx gold & silver leopard print on my toes – I couldn’t resist it!
Second Time Lucky
I absolutely loved shopping for my dress! I was a bit apprehensive at first, because as a curvy girl I was worried I would have problems finding a dress to suit. Enter Maggie Sottero….oh so many dresses that suited my shape! My dress was ‘Fleur’ and I found it at A Bride to Bee, in Warsash, Hampshire – they were totally fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble.
When I first tried my dress on I actually really disliked it, and it was only on the second visit that I thought I would give it another go, and discovered that I actually quite liked it! It totally grew on me and I adored my dress. I really loved the skirt and the ruffles of fabric, and the drop waist fitted bodice really suited my shape. The corset back meant that I was comfortable wearing a strapless dress, which I thought wouldn’t have been possible. It had just enough of a train and just enough sparkle, and on the day I felt absolutely incredible in it.
I always knew that I wanted to wear a veil, and A Bride to Bee helped me choose a bespoke veil – I wanted something very plain so it wouldn’t take away from my dress, so I opted for a fingertip length veil with a scalloped edge. It was stunning and I loved wearing it.
I’m not a fan of tiaras, as they look silly on me, so I decided to go with a flower of some sort and my mum found the perfect ivory and diamante flower clip from New Look – a bargain at £4!. My earrings were a gift from my parents, given to me on the day – stunning white gold and pearl drop earrings, with a matching bracelet.
I also wore a beautiful white gold bangle that Rich gave me as a wedding gift.
Purple Paisley Perfection
The groomsmen either wore their own grey suit, or one hired from Moss Bros, with various purple ties. They all looked so smart.
Rich looked so handsome! He generally doesn’t like wearing smart clothes, so when he does he looks extra good! He wore a charcoal grey 3 piece suit with purple lining from Savoy Taylors Guild, with an ivory paisley print tie. He loves Scrabble, so I gave him some Scrabble tile cufflinks with his initials which he wore on the day.
When I saw him standing at the end of the aisle smiling at me, I was completely overcome and was grinning and crying at the same time!
A Special Venue
We were married in August at Winchester College, a year to the date of being engaged. My dad is the Senior Chaplain at Winchester College, and we’ve lived there for 10 years so it was a no brainer as to where we would get married. We were so lucky to have access to such a beautiful place – the chapel is stunning and the grounds are magnificent.
My My My.
What a beautiful radiant bride – am a huge fan of the shiny purple polish and the smoky eye make-up.
And I’ve got to say it – how amazing does Rach’s Mum look?! You can clearly see where she gets it from!
