Luxe Louis

I’m pretty sure one of the most difficult things to find during my wedding planning was appropriate headwear. As with everything wedding, there’s always a multitude of options, but when you know what you don’t want rather than what you do, all the options are irrelevant until you find the right thing.

For my big dress, big church wedding I had initially though flowers only… nobody is searching for a Jordan-esque tiara monstrosity after all are they?! Flowers are modern, pretty and low key… but my head was turned one day by a tiara and I surprised myself with the admission that my dress and my face for that matter, suited it immensely. I had to put aside my preconceptions on style, what was modern or I didn’t want (ahem, that had previously been anything ‘tiara-esque’) and go looking for something perfectly me.

If a real heirloom headpiece is what you are after, there are sadly not many options. I bought my ‘Bandeau’ from Andrew Prince, jeweller to the Royal Family and famous for the quality for his costume jewellery. I had not seen anything similarly beautiful until I heard about Louis Mariette.

Louis Mariette, milliner/designer extraordinaire (and ex-Britain’s Next Top Model judge) has an amazing collection of headpieces that fashion-forward brides will just totally love. Lady Gaga, Lily Cole and Kate Moss are just a few of the names that have worn his designs… His Bejeweled collection will be available at Liberty in Love from the end of November.

His pieces are oh-so fashion, but the Bejeweled collection is really accessible too! Prices start from £55 for Cecilia to several hundred pounds

Speaking of fashion forward… Fancy emulating SJP a la SATC? How about this stunning Bird of Paradise piece…

And for those of you looking to emulate a Deco vibe, how about Moyra? Shown below with a very special Sneak Peek at a wedding we’ll be featuring in the not too distant future.

Yours Truly,

  1. That top headdress is so pretty – do people think it would be possible to wear it with a veil? My hair may not be long enough for an updo by the time I get married, so the veil will have to go fairly high up.

  2. What excellent timing, I cant decide whether or not I should wear a headpiece, or if it would go, or if it even suits me.
I am guessing that I shouldnt use preddyness as the basis of my decision! xoxo

  3. I struggled to find a tasteful headpiece. I wanted a tiara but as you say, not all rhinestone and ‘Jordan’. In the end I was lucky at a vintage market- I found a tiara which took the form of a wild looking garland of flowers- in gold and pearls! Loved it, immediately imagined Florance Welch wearing it in one of her fab boho videos. It went well with my dress and was just quirky enough without being overwhelming.

  4. Oh so pretties 🙂

I have to say when I first got engaged one of my earliest thoughts was….. “woohoo, now I have an excuse to wear a tiara without people thinking I have aspirations to be Katie Price and/or a Disney Princess!”

(Although as it happens, I would totally LOVE to be a Disney Princess. Belle, if you’re interested… that dress, that song, that LIBRARY… *le sigh*)

I’m totally obsessed with headbands and tiara browsing and I do love these. I need to take many photos and go discuss with my lovely hairdresser. Oh… just too exciting!

  5. Are all these sort of things always silvery? I’d really like something gold (or at least gold coloured!) or copper would be lovely (if unlikely)
