Map to my Heart…

Rather than being the rather romantic post this sounds like, today I’m sharing a find that I stumbled across almost a year ago now and immediately cursed that I hadn’t found earlier on…. specifically before my big day. One of the details I used to swoon over on the blogs across the pond were the quirky-as-you-like wedding maps incorporated in lots of the stationery. At the time I couldn’t find anything like it over here at all, so I was delighted to find a UK supplier with some amazing designs by Lydia, at Hand-drawn Maps

Every peice of work is unique and starts as a pen & ink illustration drawn by hand, giving a personal, artistic quality that you won’t find anywhere else.

You can get involved and add your own ideas to the design process to ensure you get exactly what you want. What you will receive at the end is a stunning, professional and accurate map that will add an extra sparkle to any invitation, and provide a wonderful keepsake to remember your special occasion.

I just love how personal these are as you can specify all the little details you want included, incorporating your wedding style, themes and colours, plus the details about your lives together that make you a couple. According to which package you choose you then receive a CD with the map as a .jpg image for professional quality printing and every package includes a signed high quality print of your finished map – a brilliant keepsake of the effort you put into the details.

Both the stationery and Hand-drawn Maps come in a variety of styles, some more colourful and quirky like those shown here, or if you love them, but want to stay in keeping with a simpler theme, you can work within one or two colours to tone with and existing stationery design.

  1. I actually LOVE these. Unfortunately, we already have ours done and sent out…

But these are SO cool I wish I’d held out…

  2. I feel oh-so chuffed with myself…we included a cartoon-style map of our village for our day, as the parking was a couple of streets away from our house.
We did little cartoon symbols for the village church, shop, butchers, florists etc and everyone used them to navigate their way to our home!

Granted, ours wasn’t an artistic patch on these beauties…but still!

  3. These are gorgeous – I spent quite a lot of time drooling over US wedding maps when we were planning ours, although we didn’t actually need one seeing as everything was all in one very easy to find place.
Especially love that one of these is for my town 🙂

  4. We did the same Aisling. But you’re right, ours wasn’t an artistic patch on the ones above either!

Rebecca actually gave me my inspiration when I saw a photo of her map!

  5. I tried to replicate these for my invites, but it was an epic fail, so left the map out! My invites were still pretty cool though 😉

  6. Oohhh these are lovely but unfortunately I too have missed the boat using them for my wedding!! Mmm I think I now need to devote my time to planning an awesome party where I can incorporate all these new ideas….that or get married again (to the same bloke of course!) : )

  7. Lovely! I saw something similiar on a US blog and really really wanted them, but couldn’t afford it.

So I had a bit of a Blue Peter session and made my own. Complete with hand drawn, not-very-artistic sheep and a whale in the sea (our wedding is by the coast). Took me flipping ages but was worth the effort as the guests loved it!

  8. Ooh yay, I used Lydia for our wedding map and put her forward as well for the Love Lust List so I’m so pleased you’d already found her and are showing her work. Lydia was a delight to work for, answered all my questions promptly, came back with any changes that I asked for in good time and we had a great time putting together our map. I sent them out with our invites which our guests loved. Lydia also sent us the CD and signed copy which I have had framed and takes pride of place in our living room! I can’t praise Lydia enough for her wonderful artwork and would recommend her to any bride to be!! 🙂 xx

  9. Right. Get married in 2 weeks and 4 days. trying trying trying to find a way to get these amazing maps involved.

  10. They are gorgeous and look like they really set the tone for the day! Although I would like to add that they aren’t the only UK stationer that do them! My stationer did something very similar (and having been doing them for a while) to the image on the right of ‘Bianca & Daves Wedding Map’, so a bit more formal but still, I thought, a thoughtful touch for guests who don’t have a satnav etc. They are called Borrowed Blue Press and include the map in the invtation.

They were brilliant and I got so many comments about our stationery.

    Becca xx

  11. They are fabulous!

Shame we’re all staying at our wedding venue for two days before, and we’ve already sent the invites out!

  12. I found a lady on Etsy called Shannon who made one for my invites – it was really beautiful, better than anything I could have done and cost effective because she emailed me the pdf of the final design and I printed onto card before tucking into my invites

  13. These are simply stunning – practical and pretty. I shall be recommending them to everyone I know – the artist is obviously very talented and you can see from the different designs on the website that she really takes the clients tastes and needs on board, rather than just drawing the same thing over and over again as so many places that offer these services seem to do.. a truly bespoke service.
