So there are festival weddings, and then there are proper middle-of-nowhere, wellies-on, face-paint-out FESTIVAL weddings and this one definitely falls into that category. Megan and Daniel married in the sweetest little church and then spilled out into the surrounding countryside for what can only be described as one massive party. It looks like everyone had the best time. Naturally, Megan wore sequins and the pair were ridiculously lucky with brilliant sunshine all day long. It's like a glamorous, private Glastonbury and we're absolutely loving it...look out for the gorgeous cake made by a friend too!

Our Story

Megan the Bride: We have lived in the Cayman Islands for nearly four years and we knew we wanted to get married back in the UK so all our friends and family could be there to celebrate. From scuba diving with sharks to trekking the Honduran jungle, we ALWAYS live life to its fullest and take a pretty relaxed way to life’s many adventures. We wanted our wedding day to replicate this in as many ways as possible. The proposal was PERFECT! We went to New York at the start of December 2015 for a weekend. As always we are go go go, we wanted to make the most of our trip and decided to wake up at 5am to watch the sunrise on the Brooklyn Bridge. As we were walking across the bridge Dan got down on one knee and proposed whilst the sun was rising across the New York skyline. It was perfect. I can’t believe I missed all the signs. Dan had the ring in his back pocket and actually moonwalked when I asked him to grab me something earlier in the morning!

The Bride

Living 5000 miles away from home on a little Caribbean island made this a really difficult decision! My fashion style is quite unique and the thought of a traditional dress killed me a little inside. They suit so many people but I knew a traditional dress wouldn’t suit me. I scoured the Internet and ended up finding the designer A Star is Born and bought the dress right away. I didn’t try the dress on until I landed in the UK three days before the wedding so I was super lucky it fitted and was just what I imagined. The veil was from Etsy and my shoes were a gift from my Maids of Honour – Jimmy Choos!

The Groom

Daniel the Groom: I opted for a simple blue three-piece suit. It was difficult living away as I had to buy the suit online and pray it was the right fit! Luckily it was!

The Venue

We are both country bumpkins, but Meg was a proper country girl! No neighbours, no post box, no bin men, free range chickens, Rayburn for hot water, log fires, wood chopping, no driveway, sustainable living, surrounded by acres of forest, you name it she would have grown up doing it! Growing up in a forest meant she feels the most at peace when surrounded in nature. It meant a lot to the both of us to have an outdoors wedding surrounded by trees and in Meg’s beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Woodland Tipis and Yurts was the perfect place, and only 10 minutes from the Church! We had the venue for three days and our guests could frolick in the woods the day before the wedding. Kids playing on the tree swings and making pizza in the outdoors pizza oven. It really set the most perfect scene for our relaxed wedding day. Julia and Mark were absolutely brilliant coordinating with us from away. Couldn’t recommend them more! We had our ceremony at the beautiful All Saints Church, Brockhampton. Our vicar was hilarious throughout and really set the tone for the day. We were in stitches!

The Décor

My amazing Mum did the majority of the decoration, she sourced all the items in sales and it was truly perfect. We had so many fairy lights that lit up the woods in the evening. It was stunning! We didn’t really have a colour scheme, I love sparkly things so we opted for embellished bridesmaids dresses. My Grandma (Combat Gram) and Great Aunty sewed meters and meters of white bunting which looked perfect strewn through the green trees. We’ve always loved the delicacy of Orchids so we opted for simple orchid displays throughout. My mum got these from supermarkets and the Birmingham flower market. It was perfect!

Entertainment

We had a jazz band during the canapé and welcome drink reception playing outside. It was such a stunning atmosphere. Then we had the UK’s only blind DJ during the evening. We were dreading our first dance but it was perfect with confetti canons ending the dance.

The Food

Where do I start with the cakes! My childhood friend Amy Gibbons makes the most stunning cakes and uses flowers from her garden to decorate. We had a cake buffet and one main three tiered Victoria Sponge cake covers in roses and figs and other flowers. It was AMAZING! For the food we opted for a super easy Hog Roast and Broome Farm put on the most delicious buffet. We had food on the tables also as we wanted to create a family meal atmosphere.

The Photography

Our photographer was Jarek Lepak. We were drawn to Jarek as his style is so natural. We were so happy with his relaxed approach, we didn’t even notice him taking the pictures so when we got them it was so nice to see him capture completely natural moments of pure happiness.

The Videography

Having a videographer was definitely one of the best decisions we made, when I saw the video I was so surprised and emotional, every frame is like a piece of art...it tells a story. I watch it all the time!

Our Advice

Our wedding day was absolutely everything we hoped it would be. We knew it was different and would cause drama with certain people but it was our day and it was important for us to share that moment with the most important people in our lives. Our advice would be spend your money on the bits that matter to you most and, on the day, seriously soak it all up. We saw people we hadn’t been able to see in so long because of our travels. It is truly amazing to see everyone you love in one place, at the most important moment in our time. Soak up the day as its goes in one very quick and perfect flash!
