Inspiration

We've long recommended looking outside of the world of weddings to find inspiration for your own big day. Often interior and floral trends can be seamlessly transferred into wedding design, and using these influences ensures your styling is completely unique and visionary. With that in mind, we're sharing this beautiful minimalist inspiration shoot from Anemone Style and Genevieve Wedding Photography to show you just how this is achieved. The styling here allows the incredible lofty venue to breathe and really celebrates each element of design - from the delicate and considered florals by Kitten Grayson, to the ceramic plates from Lucia Fraser. It's paired back, minimal elegance at it's very best.
Both hailing from creative backgrounds, Genevieve is a Royal College of Art graduate working professionally with photography and I am a University of the Arts Textile Design graduate with years of experience in fashion and brand management. With this shoot we were keen to create a stylistic shift within what we feel is saturating much of wedding styling today. We are also currently in the process of planning our own respective weddings and wanted to create a visual mood that would suit our own sense of aesthetic. Through personal observation and also from my role compiling the International Wedding Trend Report 2018 with the International Academy of Wedding and Event Planning, we saw an increasing interest in a more stylised, clean and minimal approach to wedding creation. Many couples are beginning to opt for more simplistic elements, such as Ikebana styled arrangements opposed to the abundant foliage we’ve seen trending the past few years. A neutral palette is often being favoured over bright rich colours and more classic pastel tones. ‘Understated’ is a key buzzword for 2018, and we are seeing a move towards more paired down but considered decoration and minimalist styled architectural spaces.
We began with the starting point of combining these minimal elements with an intimacy and softness. It was important to incorporate natural textures in the details, such as the marble, flowers, dried grasses, and handmade ceramics to bring this organic softness. We feel this style will appeal to modern style-focused couples who are looking for something contemporary, who perhaps don’t want something overly ‘romantic’ or typically ‘wedding-y’. Even though there is a growing appetite for this aesthetic, it is currently hard to source any shoots online with a similar theme. We have created a shoot that we feel could provide much needed inspiration for this particular audience.
