Oyez, oyez, oyez! We officially decree that you down tools and turn your attention to this picturesque summer wedding in the Sussex town of Rye. Marrying classic with contemporary, this delightful day is a perfect mix of quintessential Britain and rustic revelry; we're talking a Morris Minor wedding car, village hall reception venue, fabulous summer florals and to-die-for DIY tipi décor. We are utterly charmed. Road trip to Rye, anyone?
The Vibe Of Our Day
We wanted a relaxed, outdoorsy vibe for our wedding. Being a country boy, Jonny has always been described as 'rustic', and I love living in the English countryside, something I wanted to reflect in our styling. We wanted the flowers to be a big focus – a must when you have a florist as good as Astilbe & Sorrel – so I included floral imagery on the stationary, and styled the tipi simply to let the floral centrepieces stand out. We also wanted to represent Jonny's love of ale, so made a self-serve ale bar for the garden; just one of many wedding DIY projects!
Morris Minor Wedding Car
You can't beat a classic car, and Laura & Jonny's white Morris Minor is a beauty. Decorated with blue ribbons and a fabulous floral garland, she certainly is a head turner - as RMW recommended Eleanor Jane Photography's gorgeous album attests to. Winding their way down the higgledy-piggledy hills of Rye, our bride and groom are cheered like royalty by both their guests and the throngs of tourists in the picturesque Sussex town - not to mention the ringing of the town crier's bell. What a special moment for the newlyweds.Favourite Moment Of Our Day
The registrars who conducted our ceremony were a huge stand out point for us. They were the kindest, funniest pair of women, and they really made our day. Our guests still talk about them and their wonderful personalities now. The town crier – on his last day before retirement – also made our day truly unique, and arriving at our reception to the sound of the jazz band playing in the sunshine, all our guests in the garden with drinks in hand, was truly like walking into our happy place.
Are you a bride-to-be spending the Bank holiday building, making and crafting? Join the club! Laura & Jonny spent hours creating DIY décor - from their stationery and self-service bar, to the hop-covered copper ring centrepiece and mini glass bottles filled with flowers, to fabric squares for guests to sign (now being stitched into a 'guestbook quilt'; how lovely) - they describe it as a true labour of love.
