Inspiration

What could be more intimate than a mountain wedding with just, you, your beau and a few close friends? Add the spectacular scenery and some sustainable decor and flowers and you have one romantic, carefully considered celebration on your hands. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Well, not when you have the event planning and photography skills of Verena of Written in the Stars and Maria Luise Bauer to bring this vision to life. It's certainly given us some food for thought.

VISION

A modern sustainable mountain wedding in Tyrol.

LOCATION

"The ceremony took place on one of Austria’s most stunning mountains, Hafelekar near Innsbruck, at nearly 3000 metres above sea level and the reception and party was held in a barn nearby. It was important for us to produce as little as possible litter with the wedding and to work with a likeminded team. So, we worked with local, often recycled and low environmental impact materials where possible and were conscious about what would happen with the materials after the shoot or a potential wedding. Mountain Wedding

Picturesque and perfect, most definitely describes this sustainable mountain wedding inspiration. Showing you how to take advantage of the elements and use natural fabrics and fibres to decorate and fulfil your day. Our jaws nearly hit the floor when we saw the geometric light installation over the wooden tablescape, and love the idea that all the brides and grooms fashion can be re-used because let's face it, who doesn't want to re-wear their wedding outfit again, and again!

SUSTAINABLE WEDDING

"All of the timbers used for the shoot were recycled or re-used from a local carpenter in Tyrol and after the shoot, they were brought back there and reused again. And to mix the rustic barn feeling with modern elements we combined rustic tables, made out of old doors, with modern light elements. The table setup was decorated with dried and foraged florals which can be reused after and the chairs were mix and match burrowed from antique stores. Like the table decoration, all the other florals were mostly dried and foraged, too, so that everything could be used multiple times and the florist was able to take most of the florals back to the workshop to reuse them in new arrangements. The food and drinks were all provided by local vendors and served from food trucks and bikes to create a relaxed and easy-going vibe, all of the vendors are from nearby and use local and organic produce." - Maria Bauer

WEDDING OUTFITS

"We chose an outfit for our bride that could be re-used after the wedding for a normal day-to-day outfit in summer or a chic outfit to go out or in different combinations even for a relaxed summers day. With the pieces from the female designers of Noni we created three different outfits for the different parts of the day and as each of the outfits consisted of a skirt and a top they are all interchangeable and every bride will be able to reuse them after the wedding without it looking like a wedding outfit. The groom wears a sustainably produced suit made by Wilfort. The shoes for the bride and groom were sourced second hand…both are wearing boots as we were out in the mountains. The jewellery is done by Michaela Roemer, a goldsmith from Germany, who only uses responsibly sourced and mostly recycled gold for her work. The bracelets and glass markers are done by Izandla Zethu, a non-profit project, initiated by Michaela, that educates young people in the Walmer Township in South Africa, where they produce jewellery out of corrugated iron." - Maria Bauer
