While we don’t want to bombard you with festive cheer – we know when you come to RMW you’re looking for wedding inspiration, not ideas for Christmas, it would have been selfish of us not to share these rather stylish seasonal images from Ellie Grace photography. As a self confessed Scrooge (Ellie, not me, I’m full of Christmas cheer) she wanted to create a shoot that was more Scandi chic than postbox red and gold tinsel and we think the results are gorgeous. Perfect styling for a Winter celebration.
But if you are after some more Christmas joy, you should read our sister blogs Rock My Style and Rock My Family where things are unashamedly festive…
Ellie The Photographer: When you think of winter weddings you instantly assume that it has to look like Christmas. Now I really hate Christmas – I know what a scrooge, so I really wanted to do a shoot that was wintery themed but without all the Christmas rubbish…sorry Christmas fans! When I mentioned this shoot to my friend and makeup artist Julia Jeckell, the word Nordic slipped out. It could not have been any more perfect, NORDIC!! A Nordic themed wedding was exactly what I wanted to do and luckily Julia was well on board and she was absolutely perfect for the job.
I created a Pinterest board for it which originally only consisted of about 20 pins and set out to organising it, baring in mind this is the first styled shoot that I have organised myself, YIKES! I sent the board and a bit of information off to T from Campbell’s Flowers as I knew she would use her creative genius to help surge my own creativity, I also hadn’t worked with her yet and simply just was desperate to work with her on a styled shoot!
I’ve indulged in so many of Amanda Perry’s incredible baking creations that it just would have been silly to not get her involved, she had also worked recently on a shoot my friends did and her standard was better than I could have imagined.
Finally, I really wanted to involve my friend Grace with the illustrations as she is just starting out in the wedding industry so wanted to help give her a really great start, plus it helps that her stuff is basically amazing.
It took me forever to research a venue that was suitable to the theme and then one day I stumbled across Camp Katur in North Yorkshire. Their barn was PERFECT and there was even a deer head on the wall. By the end of the shoot day I had practically planned my wedding in this venue, so so nice, and Kerry who helped us put it together was basically the nicest woman in the world.
It also turns out very handy to live in the same house as someone who works in The White Room, so thanks so much to Chloe and Charley for lending me the most perfectly themed Claire Pettibone dresses.
So back to this Pinterest board…Out of 20 pins, everyone turned up on the day and using their incredibly creative minds managed to pull together this wonderfully accurately themed shoot. The foliage on top of the cake was almost identical to the illustrations on the invites, all the tones and colours of everything just went SO WELL! I guess this is exactly what happens when you give 3 creative and talented people a mood board and they just. do. it.
