Readings & Music
We had a humanist ceremony and had so many compliments about how relaxed it was. My amazing friends wrote a poem about my husband and I, and my brother in law read a wonderful passage from ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ which had everyone in tears. We had music from Jake Houlsby, who played me down the aisle to the Beach Boys’ ‘Don’t Worry Baby’. I still get tingles listening to that song! We found our evening band, Livewire, via AMV Live Music and they were incredible, getting everyone up on the dancefloor.
A Plethora of Paper Cranes
When it comes to weddings, the devil truly is in the detail, and we are always blown away by the creativity of our couples. Whether they have worked with a super stylist or taken the DIY route, today's brides and grooms clearly place a strong emphasis on decorative details - and Katie and Ferg are no exception. The colourful paper cranes made by the bride's sister, Gemma of Blossom and Blueberry, must have been a true labour of love, but how very worthwhile: they look fabulous hanging from the beams in Doxford Barns. And what about those sunflowers for another perfect pop of colour? Sunny by name, sunny by nature; if you have a favourite flower, don't be afraid to use it in your décor (season dependent, of course).
Advice For Brides-to-be
Give yourself plenty of time to plan your wedding so that the whole process is enjoyable and stress-free. You also need to have enough time flexibility to ensure all the suppliers you want to use are available on your big day. We found Sarah-Jane Ethan through Rock My Wedding and had to book her ages in advance; she’s very popular, for very good reason!
There is one further detail of this wedding that it would be remiss for us not to mention: the acrylic table numbers and acrylic table plan. After all, transparent is set to become a serious wedding trend (and understandably so; here at RMW we're crazy for acrylic). Katie and Ferg's table plan, featuring pressed flowers, is particularly stunning; and what a wonderful keepsake for after the big day too. Wondering how best to incorporate acrylic into your wedding? We have all the inspiration you need right here.
