Inspiration

We're more than a little bit pleased to see not one, but two of our fabulous recommended suppliers at Roxy & Tom's beautiful Persian wedding in Devon. First up is Roxy's gorgeous lace gown with high neck and adorable 3/4 sleeves by Catherine Deane, then there's Virginia's Vintage Hire wonderful wooden trestle tables and chairs gracing the rustic reception. Adding a splash of colour to the setting comes courtesy of mum with her homegrown flowers, plus lots of DIY decor from friends too.

What Made Our Day Unique

Most people might say their wedding is the best day of their life - and it really is. But the team effort of a DIY wedding made it even more special for us, as we felt people were invested on a personal level and not just as a 'guest'. We were all proud of what we achieved together. Tom is English and Roxy Persian so we wrote our own wedding ceremony which was a secular amalgamation of traditional English and Persian wedding ceremonies. The service followed the wording of an English service but with the addition of a few Iranian elements such as the 'Sofreh Aghd' (symbolic wedding table), the grinding of sugar cones over the couple and the feeding of honey (both to bring sweetness to the marriage).

Persian Wedding

Roxy & Tom's whole Persian wedding was a massive DIY project: The mother of the groom grew most of the flowers; their good friend Alex took the amazing photos; the mother of the bride cooked 200 Persian Kuku sabzi (Persian frittata); Cousin's DJed; Nephews operated sound; an army of friends and family helped make salad for 100 guests, and decorate the whole venue with flowers, pom-poms and fairy lights; Plus their friend Jamie was the celebrant, and the bridesmaids made all the bouquets and buttonholes! Phew! What an amazing army of helpers.
