Planning

Wedding Dreams. Crushed. Well they would be if you saw this article 'Please Stop Doing This At Your Wedding' on American blog Refinery 29, which lists ten wedding trends they are tired of seeing on Pinterest. And I'm pretty positive 99% of you will be using at least one of these trends for your own big day...

Wedding Trends

OK, OK, so I may be exaggerating a little with my point about Refinery 29 crushing your dreams ;) but they have dissed ten wedding trends which we love, and I would go as far to say that every wedding we feature on RMW contains at least one. These are the wedding trends they have had enough of -
Naked Cakes | String Lights | Photo-booth Props | Chalkboard Menus | Barn Venues | Mason Jars | Wood Signs | Teepees | Floral Crowns | Antique Furniture as Decor
I know?! Seriously? If we stopped all of these, there would basically be no weddings. And the ridiculous thing is that there are SO many ways to make the above trends totally original and unique, as you can see in our gallery. From rustic, to vintage, to classic - these trends can be styled for every occasion. While we appreciate that it was *probably* written with tongue very much in cheek - it just seems a little mean (!) Getting engaged to be married is one of the most exciting, loveliest things to happen in life and with planning a wedding comes so much joy. Who are Refinery 29 to tell Brides-to-be to stop having barn weddings, hang festoon lights or provide their guests with props for the photo booth?!

Your Day, Your Way

'Your Day, Your Way' is the ethos on which Charlotte founded Rock My Wedding and since then we've featured an absolute plethora of fabulous weddings - not all of them contain decor choices I would make myself, and we know that not every single wedding we show appeals to you - but we can all appreciate the effort and love behind each one. We regularly feature wedding inspiration with you all too - but again, we totally understand that some of you may not want to replicate those ideas for your own big day. Telling people what to do and what not to do just isn't our way.

Real Life vs Pinterest

The other thing to remember is that although you may have had your head firmly in Pinterest for a whole year, the vast majority of your guests won't have. So for them, your naked cake and festoon lighting will be totally original and truly magical. Even the Rock My Wedding team haven't seen lots of these trends in real life - Lolly is yet to attend a wedding with a cocktail hour or a dessert bar (although she'd very much like to). And our lovely Account Manager Lottie, who also runs a cake baking business, tells us that all of her bookings for 2016 are for a naked cake of some description. These trends aren't going anywhere fast ;) Getting married should be a fun experience - there is no right or wrong way to do it. Do what you makes you happy, include as many 'trends' as you want - the most important thing is that you're marrying the one you love. Right, I'm off to pin lots of pictures of wooden signs, barn weddings and silly photo-booth props...who's with me?! Fern x
