Rachel & Rob

Oh I do love a stately home wedding. Classic, elegant and sophisticated. They just get me every time. And especially so when you throw in a blousy ivory bouquet brimming with peonies, a gorgeous lace gown by British designer Augusta Jones and a dapper Groom in tails!

Bride Rachel was lucky enough to borrow her Grandma’s cathedral length veil for her big day. It looks incredible and finishes off her outfit to perfection. The image of her walking down the stairs with the veil behind her is just stunning.

As well as the gorgeous images from Mike Garrard, we also have the wedding film for you from Clarke & Palmer Wedding Films, so grab a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit (or a green tea and a carrot stick if you’re on a detox) and enjoy this gorgeous wedding from List recommended venue Hedsor House

Rachel The Bride: Rob and I got engaged at Christmas 2012 after 5 years together, when he whisked me away for a surprise weekend in Paris. Until then I hadn’t given much thought to my perfect wedding day, and didn’t really know where to start with the planning process! In the end the inspiration for our day came from our venue, the beautiful Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire.

The Venue

We didn’t plan to get married in a church so the main criteria for our venue was a beautiful ceremony room where I could imagine myself walking down the aisle…this turned out to be a tall order! After a weekend looking at venues without much success, we arrived at Hedsor House and both knew immediately it would be the perfect setting for our day.

Whilst initially intimidated by such a ‘blank canvas’ of a venue (we had to organise everything separately rather than getting a ‘package’ for the day) we soon realised this presented a fantastic opportunity to plan our perfect wedding, albeit with a little more effort!!

Timeless Elegance

We shied away from having a theme as such; the venue was so beautiful that instead we tried to create a feeling of ‘timeless elegance’ throughout the whole day. There was no specific colour scheme, but rather everything – from the handmade invitations to the accent colours in the outfits and decoration – were neutral, pastel shades which mirrored the beautiful Georgian-style decor of the house as well as the spring flowers in the stunning grounds.

The Dress

When it came to the dress, I didn’t know what I wanted and initially found the process quite overwhelming! In the end I came across British designer Augusta Jones, and fell in love with the style of her dresses, in particular the lace gowns. I actually found my dress – called Ali – in a boutique in London, but I wanted my mum to see it, so we visited Georgina Scott Bridal near my family home in Worcestershire.

The Accessories

My Grandmother leant me her 60-year-old veil to wear for the wedding. It was exquisite, a cathedral length pure silk veil edged with delicate Chantilly lace. When I tried on the dress again – with the veil – I didn’t even have to look in the mirror; I knew from the expression on my Mum’s face that we’d found ‘The One’.

The Bridesmaids

I wanted my Bridesmaids’ gowns to complement my dress, and Maids to Measure were perfect. Their bespoke approach meant we could have exactly what we wanted; in the end we settled on the ‘Charlotte’ design in an antique rose colour, a full-length chiffon style which suited my bridesmaids perfectly.

The Boys

We wanted the Groomsmen’s attire to be quite traditional. Rob got his morning suit from Gieves & Hawkes on Savile Row, and had a cream waistcoat made at Favourbrook. We hired morning suits and grey waistcoats from Buckleigh of London for his groomsmen.

The Flowers

Seventh Heaven provided our flowers; they have a treasure trove of accessories including antique silver candelabras and vases which were perfect for our day. All the flowers were seasonal blooms (peonies, roses, gypsophila) in shades of cream and ivory, and the two pedestal arrangements at the entrance to our ceremony were just stunning.

The Stationery

I helped design our bespoke invitations and stationery, which were all handmade by Leena at Ratanji Rani. Leena emigrated to Australia four months before our wedding, but she was amazing and delivered exactly what we wanted remotely. For any Australian brides-to-be, she is now operating her business out of Sydney!

The Entertainment

Entertainment was provided by Apollo Strings, who played a number of classical pieces during the ceremony and a more contemporary selection during the reception, and 4-piece band iPop during the evening. We wanted a band that would play really current music and have our guests up dancing all night; iPop certainly achieved this, and were so popular that some friends have booked them for their own wedding next summer! Class Act provided all the production and lighting, which totally transformed Hedsor’s Centre Hall, in which our ceremony had been held just a few hours earlier.

The Food

Our caterer was Caper & Berry. It was really important to us that the food was of a high standard and they really delivered on this with our seasonal menu of tomato and goats cheese tart, lamb with asparagus and trio of desserts (we couldn’t choose just one!). Their event manager ensured the entire day went to plan, and it was down to them that everything flowed perfectly from start to finish.

The Cake

Dawn Shrewsbury made our cake. I had a really specific idea of what I wanted – a 4-tier lace style – which she created exactly! It also tasted amazing. The Biscuiterie made mini macaron favours for all our guests, a hark back to our Parisian engagement.

The Photography

The photographer was an important decision for us; Mike Garrard was one of Hedsor’s recommended suppliers, and as soon as we saw his work it was an easy decision. His pictures are beautiful and really captured the essence of our day.

The Videography

I was nervous about being filmed but we felt that if we didn’t get a videographer we would regret it! We had a really specific idea of the style of wedding film we wanted, and after watching many a wedding video online we came across Clark and Palmer Films; they are extremely talented and put together a fantastic highlights and full length film for us. The day really did fly by so it is lovely to be able to watch it again all these months later.

Advice

We were extremely lucky with the weather on the day and everything came together perfectly; we had the most amazing wedding, and it made all the months of planning and effort worthwhile. Your wedding day really is the best day of your life and I would recommend all brides-to-be to really make the most of the excitement and anticipation in the run up to the main event; it is a very special time, so enjoy it!
