Ruth & Sam

Welcome to the new look RMW. And seeing as it’s even more sexy than before… we’ve got an extra specially gorgeous wedding for you…

Doesn’t Ruth look amazing?!? I’m in love with her elegant Joanna Johnson gown and sparkling headpiece. And that shot of her with her veil sweeping away behind her is divine. Good work Jonny Draper.

Sam doesn’t scrub up too badly either in his smart Paul Smith suit. Those scousers always know how to dress to the nines…

Their wedding is full of fun, games and dancing and it looks like all of the guests had an absolute riot. From dancing barefoot in the Papakata tipis to Disco Shed’s tunes…to creating human pyramids on the lawn…to posing in fields with yellow smoke bombs…it’s all going on at this wedding!!

Ruth The Bride: We knew from the beginning we wanted our wedding to be relaxed, fun and a seriously big party. For us, this meant having the freedom to party all night and ensure our guests could basically do what they wanted without any potential limitations you might get from hiring a venue.

The venue for us was easy – we’re both from Liverpool and Sam’s parents live in a beautiful house with a big garden in the countryside. When we saw Papakata’s festival style tipis we knew they would be perfect.

I chose my dress very early on. It wasn’t initially what I thought I would have picked but I fell in love. Johanna Johnson is an Australian designer and I loved how simple yet elegant it was. I accessorised with a Johanna Johnson cuff and a beautiful headpiece and in the evening I added a Johanna Johnson belt which felt very 1920s bohemian glamour.

We live in Sydney, Australia which made it tricky to meet with suppliers, but I was lucky enough to have an amazing Mum who was basically our personal wedding planner. Not only did she source the decorations but she also made a lot of them too, including our favours; homemade marmalade for the boys and lavender soap for the girls. She also collected driftwood from the local beach and painted signs which were dotted around the garden.

Two days before the wedding we sourced flowers from the local flower market and my Mum did an amazing job of arranging them. The bouquets and men’s button holes were arranged by Flowers by Laurie in Formby. I wanted mainly white flowers with green foliage and touches of pale pink and he absolutely nailed it.

All of our decorations just made the place look so magical. We had fairy lights, ivy, candles, enormous balloons which we bought from Pearl & Earl and bunting everywhere. At night, the garden just lit up and looked like a wonderland. Our initials S & R were lit up in lights from The Word is Love and they just looked stunning in the garden. Sam’s family and friends did an incredible job to make the garden and all the grounds look perfect in time for the day, which we know took months to prepare for.

We were lucky enough to have family friend and restaurateur, Jim Sines who did all of our catering. Jim’s team did an amazing job on the day and the food was ridiculously delicious.

The music throughout the day was brilliant. My brother played guitar and sang as I walked down the aisle. He sang the Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole version of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and it was a real tear jerker moment. During the drinks reception we hired Lucy from DG Music who sang and played guitar for our guests as we celebrated in the sunshine. Her voice is incredible and her choices of song were absolute crowd pleasers, a definite fave was when she played ‘Under The Sea’ from the Disney film ‘The Little Mermaid.’

Disco Shed our DJs were more than incredible. We sent Simon a sample of music we wanted playing and it was very eclectic – from rock to dance to metal. He wasn’t a typical wedding DJ and managed to seamlessly mix in and mash up our songs and everybody loved it. Nobody stopped dancing and so he didn’t stop playing until 6am, which was just awesome! Simon was a complete legend and I couldn’t recommend disco shed enough for their completely unique approach to wedding music.

A definite favourite moment was our first dance. We chose Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere.’ I was dancing on Sam’s shoulders, doing knee slides and everyone was singing along and throwing their hands up in the air. It really set the tone for the rest of the evening.

The best investment we made was in our wedding photographer, Jonny Draper and videographer, James Wray-Lang. Jonny Draper has a completely unique approach to wedding photography meaning we got the coolest shots, plus he’s a thoroughly lovely chap!!! Both Jonny and our videographer managed to capture moments and emotions we didn’t even remember had happened including an epic human pyramid, which after several failed attempts we managed to perfect in time for an amazing picture.

I love looking back at our photos and our wedding videos and now the wedding is all over they truly are our most treasured possessions. I couldn’t recommend Jonny and James highly enough.

No one will know if something hasn’t gone quite as you planned, so just go with whatever may be thrown at you be it bad weather or a ripped dress, as long as you are both having fun then so will everyone else. In the words of Roald Dahl “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

  1. What an incredibly beautiful bride! I love everything about this, particularly the sense of elegance and style fused with loads of fun and laughter. Amazing.

  2. A bride that hot can only be a scouser! What a stunning couple, looks like they had a ball too.

Loving the new RMW look too gang x
