Summer & Robin: The Taco Tasting

Phew…I made it to the other side of thirty unharmed. I only had a minor panic the evening before my birthday. All of a sudden the wedding seems very close. We finally ordered our invitations, and they will be winging their way to friends and family ASAP. We decided to get them printed with again, who I have to say have been great. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. The invitations look so super high quality. I will show you all the designs next month because I don’t want to spoil the surprise for our guests.

Our wedding website is frigging amazing. It was Robin’s project and made me feel like I was in Don’t Tell The Bride because he literally locked himself upstairs to do it. I LOVE it but I could have never come up with anything like it…It’s hosted by which is basically the new geocities (I know you all knew and loved geocities blogs back in 2000). It doesn’t come with templates and you have to (kinda) understand how to use html, but it’s so fun! I swear I can’t resist a terrible gif. Come on…a galaxy taco gif is a wedding essential right?!

Talking of tacos!! Sam’s Kitchen are our caterers, they are a deli, cafe and music venue in Bath and came highly recommended to us. We couldn’t be happier with our choice. A couple of Sundays ago we met up with their events manager Kirstie and had the best time. It’s so nice to meet somebody who is going to be such an important part of our wedding day that we feel so comfortable with, we chatted like old friends almost instantly (Hi Kirstie *waves*). I couldn’t feel happier for Kirstie and her team from Sam’s Kitchen to be feeding us and our guests on our big day. The food was DELISH. We ate so much I could hardly move. Our choice of Mexican food certainly is not a regret. I did have a little sauce accident which would be bad news with my wedding dress. But the messiness of the dishes we’ve chosen are totally worth it and I’ll either have to get myself a bib or just have a couple of extra margaritas to get over it.

We have also booked our tableware. We have gone with Little Cherry who specialise in planet friendly party supplies. Their customer service bowled me over and we knew as soon as we received our samples that their products fitted perfectly with our relaxed theme. They are such a great alternative to normal disposable tableware, not only do they look unique and gorgeous but they are also eco friendly (so important). We will be using palm leaf plates for our sit down meal and in the evening we have some super amazing coconut shell bowls. I loved the sample coconut bowl they sent so much I am currently using it on my dressing table as a jewellery/make-up dish. We have also ordered heart shaped palm leaf bowls for our dessert table.

I got my hair cut just before my birthday but I chickened out when it came to having it coloured. My hairdressers do ‘semi-glossing’ which is a semi permanent hair treatment that adds a natural colour and shine to your hair. I did a bit of google research but I would love to hear if any of you have tried semi-glossing.

We have hit our 100 day count down and I honestly don’t feel the panic that Danielle described. I feel crazy excited! Most of all I wish my family could all live a little bit closer to us so someone could share my fanatical excitement. One of my sisters is about to pop out a baby (!!!) so plans for hen parties have been put on hold. Robin and I are actually thinking about having a joint stag and hen (A sten? A hag? They both sound a bit dodgy). Living in Bath we see hen parties out all the time and sometimes I get a little pang of jealously but I don’t really think wandering around Bath’s vintage market with a veil and a sash is really my thing. I did do a little research into possible local stuff we could all do together and found that in Bristol they have a karaoke bar that has a private Hello Kitty room. I know, I know, that’s not really me either — but with Robin and the other boys (ummm I’m 30 now…‘men’) it would be less girly and cute more deadly fun! I haven’t made any definite plans yet but I do need to go to that karaoke bar and rent the Hello Kitty room at some point in my life now I know it exists.

Happy wedding planning!

  1. I’m a 22nd August bride too! Can’t believe the countdown is into double figures – I’m sure it will fly by, especially as I have 4 weddings to go to before my own!

  2. Hey, I am feeling very inspired by this post. We are also debating whether to have disposable tableware…I had a look at the CherryTree website and I love their products!

Re. your food choice… loving the mexican theme! We are having big pans at our wedding, one with chilli and the other with chicken and chorizo paella. My mum thinks we should also have a ‘plain’ option with no spice e.t.c. We are now wondering whether we should include a plain option and what it should be?! Any thoughts?

    1. Hey Kim,

We are having chilli in the evening, served in big pans!! We had wondered wether to include a plain option but in the end we decided against it. It’s only one day after all and if someone really only wants scampi and chips (robins grandmas request haha) they will just have to have extra cake. Sam’s kitchen, our caterers, have managed to pack our food with flavour without the spicy hotness we might enjoy if it was just us, we have asked for one side dish at lunch to be spicy though. I think we are going for an extra spicy version of corn on the cob.

Little cherry are fab, since this post I have had all the stuff delivered and we love it. You can order a pack of samples for a couple of pounds and if you go on to order with them they will refund the cost of the samples. I am most obsessed with our coconut shell bowls. I’m already wondering how to use them after the wedding… I think lots of people will be getting DIY bird feeders for christmas.

  3. Hi Summer,

Ah fab! Great minds think alike. Ha ha! I know the feeling. My uncle has requested a fish option..only the most expensive option! I like your thinking, you can’t please everyone. I think we will stick to our chilli and paella :). I like the sound of the spicy corn on the cobs – good veggie option.

Ooh that’s great. I will definitely order some samples. I’m wondering whether we can use the coconut bowls for the chilli and paella? They may be too small but they look so cool. DIY bird feeders is such a good idea…very eco friendly!

Wishing you all the best with your wedding planning.
