Decorating Cakes With Edible Flowers & Petals

You may recognise the gorgeous cakes in this post – the lovely Bee from Bee’s Bakery is a member of our recommended supplier directory The List. Creating beautiful cakes using edible flowers and petals, Bee’s cakes not only look really pretty and oh so delicate, but also deliciously mouth watering too.

Since Bee started baking wedding cakes around 8 years ago, she has experienced a huge growth in demand for cakes that are not only decorated with flowers and plants, but that are baked with them too, and she’s become somewhat an expert in “plant-based” or vegan baking.

We asked Bee for her top tips for decorating with edible petals – just in case any of you fancy giving it a go, or if you’d like to ask your cake baker to recreate the look. We’re also sharing a recipe for buttercream from Bee’s latest book AND the answers to all the questions you’d want to ask if you were using edible flowers and petals for your own wedding cake. Grab a cup of tea and get comfortable, this post is equal parts pretty and useful!

The Future of the Wedding Cake

Cake; the ultimate people pleaser and the tradition which in an age of kicking them to the curb still floats everyones’ boat. Everyone loves cake. But how can you make it work for all of your guests, regardless of their food allergies? It’s a very real issue right now, with more and more people experiencing adverse reactions to many of the core ingredients used in creating wedding cakes, and in our eyes, no one should miss out, but where do you even begin?! Thankfully, we’ve managed to call in an expert to offer you all of the advice you need. Bee’s Bakery has taken the baking world by storm thanks to epic, delicious creations, and Bee is an absolute fountain of knowledge when it comes to plant based cakes. I’m going to guess that her microbiology and medical science pre-cakey experience has a part to play in her championing of the alternative bake, so there’s not a more perfect lady for the job of chief advice giver!

Nicole & Chris

What a talented bunch of suppliers Nicole & Chris had to create their metallic and geometric city wedding. Many of them included on our very own wedding directory, The Love Lust List and Look Book.

I love the quirky hanging decor at 06 St Chads’ Place, and how glamorous do the bridesmaids look in their gold sequin gowns. Nicole also sports a gorgeous 1920s vintage inspired hairstyle that compliments her embellished Rosa Clara ‘Veleta’ gown beautifully. And did I mention the shoes, you’d never guess they were from the highstreet?!

With red double decker busses, marmite favours and a portrait machine, you’ll be hard pressed not to find something you don’t absolutely LOVE about this urban wedding captured by Miss Gen Photography.

Heather & Thomas

So this spring wedding at Babington House in Somerset captured by RMW fave Especially Amy is all kinds of AMAZING.

First setting my heart a flutter is Bride Heather’s Inbal Dror wedding dress that she travelled all the way to Ireland to try on. It literally fits her like a glove and is both elegant and sexy. I adore the delicate lace and the low back is stunning.

Next giving me palpitations are the blooms by Flowers by Passion who are part of RMW’s recommended supplier directory, The Love Lust List. Between the pink hued bouquets, immense floral arch, staircase garland and heart wreath I think your pinning fingers are going to be extremely busy.

Ella & Tom

I’ve been lucky enough to attend an event at Kensington Roof Gardens in the past and can attest to its gloriousness so it’s easy to see why Ella and Tom picked it for their wedding day. Despite the amazing views, it’s easy to forget that you’re in a capital city once you set foot in this urban oasis. And yes there are ACTUAL flamingos.

The pair decided to celebrate their nuptials by paying homage to the venue itself choosing an art deco twist for their decor and using little accents of pink to tie in with the resident flamingos. Cute!! All the action was captured by Fiona Kelly Photography.
