The 2018 Collection From Hermione Harbutt

I’ve long been an admirer of Hermione Harbutt’s beautiful accessories. Hermione has been designing and handcrafting her pieces for years now and her name always comes up when we’re looking for bridal accessories with a difference. She has created pieces for hundreds of brides and each of her collections is at the forefront of bridal style year after year after year. I stumbled across her Bristol studio on a weekend in the city a while ago and fell in love with feel and style of her brand in the flesh too (a moment that Hermione has no idea about FYI)!

The 2018 collection brings gold into her repertoire for the first time – which I’m loving as I adore the look of gold jewellery. There’s also a nod to the current celestial trend with some seriously pretty star hair clips. My favourite piece (although it’s really hard to choose) is that gorgeous golden halo worn with the lightest of veils. The whole collection is divine though and has been brought together to perfection by this wonderful shoot…

The New Collection

Hermione the Designer: The Hermione Harbutt 2018 Collection introduces gold details in abundance for the first time. Using delicate gold skeleton leaves, tiny gold blooms and organic details, this new collection of headdresses, hairpins and jewellery just oozes warmth and hazy Summer days. Despite focusing on a more golden tone overall I find it difficult to adhere myself too strongly to one particular style or colour whilst designing a new collection – my creative flow just simply won’t be contained to a brief! So amongst the glorious gold you will also find delicate silver pieces featuring my signature wirework, including dainty Swarovski crystal stars that ‘float’ in the hair, pearls blooms and leaves nestled into pretty garlands and organic side headdresses. I adore using soft colours within my designs, so amongst the new pieces you will also find organza butterflies in the softest whisper of blue, the palest blush cherry blossom flowers and subtle pops of pale mint green sitting alongside the golden wiring.

The Inspiration

I take inspiration from all that surrounds me; in particular from nature, the current bridal and catwalk trends and certainly from my brides. Every piece is handmade individually for each bride using the finest pearls, crystals and gemstones, meaning a wide variety of options are available. Almost all of my pieces can be made in either gold or silver wiring and a myriad of different beadings options to suit the bride’s personal style. Being able to create bespoke designs naturally results in a wide variation in pieces that I create throughout the year and this is turn influences my designing for the new collection. I have also been inspired by the idea of designs that have a celestial feel and quality to them. The leaf crowns are certainly following this vein and combine the celestial with a 1920’s edge.

The Pieces

For brides looking for something to really make their dress a sensation, this collection features three beautiful back necklaces which could transform even the most simple gown into something really unusual. A flutter of delicate butterflies, pearl blooms with delicate golden chain details and an art deco pearl droplet – there is something for every bride. Some of the headpieces are convertible, featuring tiny loops with a detachable chain fitting to allow them to be worn pinned into the hair in any position desired and then removed and easily changed into a stunning statement necklace to be worn again and again.

The Location

The shoot was held within the grounds of Westonbirt School, a truly stunning wedding venue in the Cotswolds. With it’s beautiful grounds, including Italian Gardens and it’s own Chapel, it really is the most sensational wedding venue and the perfect backdrop to our shoot. The overall feel of the shoot was one of nature at it’s best: ethereal bridal nymphs with organic and rustic backdrops; understated romantic gowns paired with the delicate, beautiful accessories.

The Team Behind The Shoot

The very talented Amy Fanton was behind the lens, creating photographic magic with her luminous, romantic and natural images. Amy is as much a joy to work with as her images are exquisite and it was such an honour to have her capture the new collection so beautifully.

Our hair and make up team created a gorgeous look for the models. Amy from Amy Elizabeth Make Up perfectly captured the brief with radiant skin and natural make up with a hint of peach and gold to complement the colour palette. Becks Simpson of Thairapy created wonders with the tresses, with soft up dos and long loose locks being the perfect pairing with the hair accessories and the natural feel.

La Poesie provided the beautiful, romantic gowns with soft flowing silks and delicate lace details and floral Harriet Wilde shoes completed the look.

To capture the organic, natural feel called for some stunning blooms and Lily Violet May delivered in spades. Her floral talents created the perfect bouquets along with oversized armfuls of blooms that could not have been more perfect.

The Couture Bride

It is such an honour to work within the wedding industry, providing beautiful couture accessories to brides. Exceptional craftsmanship and originality of design are of the utmost importance to me and I strive to create truly exquisite pieces, wiring each piece together intricately by hand to create a unique piece of heirloom quality. It is such a privilege to work with brides and beautiful things and I feel so lucky to do what I do!
