If someone could just whisk us off to Santorini right now we’d be very happy bunnies…just look at the light! The views!! The colour of the water!!! We could definitely do with a long weekend at the Grace Hotel 😉
But for now we’ll just have to swoon at Valentina and Stefano’s destination wedding instead – they gathered all of their friends and family in a boutique hotel, got married and had a big party. And a very glamorous one at that. And really, that’s all you need to have a wedding.
Stefano and Valentina are from the beautiful Venice, Italy. When they decided to get married last year they initially thought to organise their wedding day in Venice. They thus went on holidays to Greece and discovered the beautiful Santorini island. They immediately fell in love with it and changed their mind about their wedding location: it should be this fantastic island, with its breathtaking, panoramic views on the caldera. Looking for the perfect venue, which could cater for their wedding party of around 30 guests, they thus found Grace Hotel, located in the romantic setting of Imerovigli in the northwest of the island. Grace is an exclusive boutique hotel perched above the world-famous Caldera with breathtaking views and sumptuous sunsets.
The Wedding Weekend
The wedding weekend started on Saturday when Stefano, Valentina and all their friends and relatives together flied from Venice to Fira airport. All the guests were hosted at Marillia Village, a very comfortable hotel located at the southeast part of Santorini, in one of the most popular beaches of the island, Perivolos, that was their accommodation in the island. Here they all had a pizza party and quiz night.
Valentina and Stefano have chosen Marillia Village also for its position in the island, as it is only a few kilometers from the airport and on the opposite side of the caldera, to keep the amazing views hidden for their guests, so that the surprise of the sight would have been even more amazing for all of them, taking part to the ceremony on a terrace of Grace Hotel.
Sunday early afternoon the preparations began. Chairs were set up on the beautiful terrace of Grace Hotel, the hairdresser and make up artist came to prepare Valentina, her grandmother and mum, while the wedding planner worked behind the scenes to get ready for the reception.
The guests were all transferred from Marillia Village to Grace Hotel and could finally discover the breathtaking view of the caldera of the spectacular terrace of Grace, where they were seated waiting for the wedding party accompanied by musicians. As the ceremony finished the wedding party moved down onto the swimming pool terrace and music played on into the evening, with the aperitivo being served on the terrace as the sun set over the sea. Dusk faded into dark and dinner was served; the internal hall of Grace Hotel was later transformed into a disco till the end of party.
It was the same dress used by the bride’s mother when she got married.
