Inspiration

The Claude Monet quote "I must have flowers, always, and always" certainly rings true at this rustic barn wedding. With the wild wedding flowers taking centre stage and lighting up each image captured by Carrie Lavers Photography. Also apparent is the love and emotion shared by the bride and groom, Amy & Joe, whose beaming smiles are making my heart swell. Bookmarks at the ready!

Inspiration Behind The Styling

We wanted our day to be a fun and relaxed Summer day, including Pimms and games and some great food. We wanted our flowers to be large and wild, and to contain in-season foliage and flowers. We wanted a non-traditional semi-naked cake adorned with flowers that tied in with our flowers. We loved that our venue was in a quiet countryside location, allowing us to get some shots in some fields, and with outdoor space for our guests to enjoy as we love spending time outside exploring the countryside and going on long walks. We wanted it all to be personal to us and our stationery was a big part of that- Katie painted illustrations of Lancaster University where we met for our save the date, where we currently live for our invite and Godrevy lighthouse where we got engaged for our RSVP. The on the day stationery was all centred around the beautiful Clock Barn.

Wild Wedding Flowers

Everywhere you turn at this barn wedding there are wild wedding flowers adorning everything. From the bride's flower crown right through to the semi-naked wedding cake. And not forgetting the floral moon gate used as the perfect backdrop for the nuptials and top table. Each stem is lovingly placed by Lily Lupin to make the most wonderful arrangements, bouquets and buttonholes. If you haven't pinned at least one of them yet, I'm sure by the end of this feature you will!

Wedding Suppliers

We had some great fun planning our wedding- mulling over cake flavours and designing the desserts for our dessert station, we learnt a lot of new skills DIYing wooden signs, calligraphy on our invitation envelopes, designing our stationery, making over 100 jars of jam + marmalade and designing my engagement and wedding rings. But it was our suppliers that really made our day. Our cake looked absolutely stunning and tasted even better- Harriot who made it was sure there would be a lot leftover (which we were keen on because I wanted my friends to take leftovers into my work as I'm always baking for work and wanted to share our wedding cake too) but it was all almost gone! Nobody could resist it. Katie created some beautiful paintings for our stationery that we can keep always. The flowers were a real star of the show and our florist Lisa really went above and beyond in the run-up to the wedding to try and make all our flower dreams come true, and had some excellent advice for us, even on non-flower related aspects like our seating chart. Evie and her assistant Kat were fantastic on the day, dispelling nerves and putting us all at ease, as well as making us look so great- I was so grateful to have them there- it was just like having an extra couple of friends in the room! And of course Carrie- the photos speak for themselves. She worked so hard on such a hot day, directing unruly groomsmen and bridesmaids into wonderful photos effortlessly and snapping so many fantastic shots of our day that we will treasure forever.

Amy & Joe offer engaged couples some amazing advice - "Try not to rush into choosing your suppliers, they are such a huge part of your day and they can really make it. Make sure you are both involved in the planning process, it's so much more fun and makes a day that is much more reflective of you as a couple." So with all of that in mind, take a look at our handpicked wedding directory The List for lots of amazing suppliers you can trust, and have a listen to our podcast for lots of amazing planning advice, including a dedicated episode wedding planning from the grooms perspective.
