Inspiration

It's such a pleasure to share this gorgeously stylish winter wedding with you all, as not only is it full of quirky design inspiration, but the reception looks like an absolute riot too. There was even a designated 'rave room' complete with neon glow sticks! Pub weddings always look fun to me, I mean is there anywhere better for a celebration?! And I think they work even better during the colder months when you can gather around the fireplace and underneath twinkling fairy lights while indulging in some good food and drink. Zeba and Nick's big day was styled by Knot & Pop, who are members of our handpicked directory of wedding suppliers, The List, so we've included extra images of the details for you to enjoy and trust me, you'll want to see more!

The Venue

Susie at Knot & Pop: Mixing new with old, contemporary with gentle rustic touches, this wedding speaks of a tactile touch with innate style. With a nod to nature and Scandinavian style and sensibility, their wedding beautifully complemented the surrounds of the venue, The Olde Bell. A little weird, a lot wonderful with a touch of whimsey, the wedding theme had a bohemian edge, balanced with a modern mind to best reflect this super stylish couple.

The Colour Palette

With the wedding in winter, the palette and tone played into the season. Rich in tone - fig and dark teal blended with silver greens and foliage greens, with a focus on monochrome to keep the palette feeling contemporary. Taking traditional Scandinavian art, illustration and craft as inspiration, the wedding stationery and signage drew design cues from this aspect. Clean typography blended with the whimsical, gothic fairy-tale-esque nature of the illustrations – creating a merry band of wedding party animals!

The Flowers

Flowers were kept unstructured and organic in feel, embodying a cool and fresh approach to florals with quips and quirks throughout. Dining table flowers mixed terrariums with animal vases and tree trunk vases, showing further buds and blooms, mixing and matching the allocation across tables, with plenty of candle-light for lots of winter twinkle.

The Tables

Plenty of consideration was given to the tablescape with Knot & Pop sourcing beautiful green side plates, with a pewter butter knife placed a top, and mix match cutlery giving it an organic effortless feel. Napkins elevated from the plain white with tea towels used instead for added texture, sealed in the middle by a sprig of foliage.

The Rave Room

The malt house was fully dressed with cushions, rugs, vases, candles, and decorations sourced and styled by Knot & Pop. During dinner one of the rooms in the malt house was then transformed into a ‘rave room’ for the dancing... Uv lights covered the room in a wash of neon and acid brights, with neon tape used across wall canvases, and applied directly to the wall where the mantlepiece is. The DJ booth, the epicentre of any rave, had the couples wedding logo emblazoned across. Overhead, glow in the dark geo ribbon garlands were strung with a ‘light up’ table giving guests all the neon and uv accessories they needed to hit the dance floor and keep the party going into the small hours. Total party animals.

Special Moments

Zeba The Bride: Experiencing the barn for the first time was so magical! The entire room romantically twinkled and the ambience was very organic and whimsical, which was perfect for that cosy and warm feeling away from the winter weather. Whilst the expertly curated finer details by Knot & Pop and unexpected design elements made the whole experience feel incredibly chic in a beautifully understated way. It was exactly what we wanted. Along with, entering the church and seeing a sea of smiling faces all wearing our NZ badges! And of course, the Rave Room! We wanted to surprise guests and set the tone that it was time to party so seeing the incredible transformation, everyonewith glow sticks and neon face paints on, dancing away, was exactly the silly and fun contrast we wanted from the rest of theday.

Advice

Go on a pre-moon - it's the perfect way to get your head in the right space before the big day. Details which are aimed at your guests (individual messages on their place settings, badges or bespoke colouring in books for kids) are often the least inexpensive or even free things to do and your guests will be so touched by them.
