DIY Bright And Bold Red Lips.

This afternoon’s post is the first of a bumper sized series that we can’t wait to share with you over the coming weeks. If you haven’t guessed from the header of this article already then you might be a little bit pleased to know that we’ll be sharing lots and lots of beauty and hair DIYs to take you through the next few months to Christmas and beyond.

It’s something that we’ve been meaning to do for a while now at RMW HQ given the popularity of our past beauty posts but we just hadn’t quite gotten round to doing it. It took a ruddy long planning meeting with all members of the RMW team to get our backsides into gear and produce what you see on your screen in front of you today.

And we’ll let you into a secret…we’re actually really proud of this beauty DIY series. It was imperative to all of us that the tutorials be super simple and easy to follow so that even the most cack-handed amongst us could pull off the looks with aplomb. Hopefully you’ll agree…

So let’s begin. Have any of you lovelies decided on what your pout might be doing for W-day? Perhaps you’re looking for a spot of beauty inspiration for when you’re off out to lunch with the girls?

Might we tempt you with something a little bit bright, a little bit BOLD?

how-to-lips

1. Prime the lips with a lip balm of your choice using a cotton bud to gently exfoliate. Tissue off any excess.
2 & 3. Use a lip pencil to gently shape the lips correcting any uneven patches. Cross the two pencil lines on the upper lip to create the perfect cupids bow.
4. Apply your lipstick with a lip brush for an accurate and precise finish.
5. Use a concealer to tidy up any mistakes and further define the lip line
6. Blot with a blotting paper (it takes away some of the oil in the lipstick leaving just the pigment.
7. Repeat and blot again.
8. Return to your lip pencil to tidy up any mistakes and further define the lip line.

So there you have it, an easy peasy step by step to create the perfect bold lip for your gorgeous faces. Remember if red isn’t your thing then you can always replicate the above steps with a shade of your choosing.

Personally I can’t wait to try out the handy tip that Jodie recommended for the perfect cupids bow. Now where is that lip pencil…?

  1. Ooh this is exactly what I’m going for for my make up in 5 weeks time. I think my mum etc are a bit concerned about a bold lip, but in a vintage way, with some liquid eyeliner, I think it is classic ! x

  2. Love a bold lip – but I’ve always been a bit unsure of it on me! However, my lovely makeup lady did a fab job with my wedding lips so I think I need to learn how to recreate them!!

    1. Hi Holly *waves*

We think every girl needs a DIY tutorial like this in her kitbag. I’ve not met a lady who doesn’t look good in a bold lip – I think it’s all about finding a shade that suits you. Good luck practicing – we want to see the finished result xx

  3. Excellent timing, team! I’m in London Town this week so perfect opportunity to try it out.

Are we allowed to know the other topics, or is it a little surprise each time?

    1. Oh yay, do try it out Debs – are you heading anywhere nice?

It’s going to be a surprise I’m afraid – there are lots of lovely tips and tricks though 🙂
