Emma & Jake

We do love a beautiful wedding at Love Lust List member Cripps Stone Barn and Emma & Jakes classic day is no exception. Elegantly decorated with DIY bunting, floral stationery designed by the Groom and pastel pretty summer meadow blooms by Go Wild Flowers just completed the already perfect country venue and added a personal touch.

I have to say I think Emma’s low back Lara Hannah bridal gown is stunning! I love everything about her look, her hair, her makeup and her delicate custom made jewellery. She just looks divine and SO happy to see her Groom looking dapper in his Reiss suit and cat socks at the end of the aisle.

I also love that Emma allowed her Bridesmaids to be unique and style their multi way Marks and Spencer gowns to their taste and their array of hairstyle is fabulous. Some major swooning over the side fishtail braid here at HQ

Bride Dress

Emma The Bride: I have always liked classic, elegant clothes and after trying on lots of lacy, sequined dresses I decided to stick to my usual style and opted for a simple, classic looking silk dress. When I first tried it on with the gorgeous Joyce Jackson veil I absolutely loved it! I am really pleased that I stayed true to my usual taste and style as I felt amazing on the day and really enjoyed wearing it. My veil was incredible and I loved how the lace trim sat against the train of the dress.

My hair piece and bracelet were custom made by Emily Bishop at Hannah Emily Bridal.

My engagement ring belonged to my Nan on my Dad’s side and it meant a lot to him to see me use it as my engagement ring. Our wedding rings were from A&P jewellery in St Nicks market, Bristol.

My make up was done by Nina Norman who is a Bristol based make up artist . She made me feel brilliant on the day and was really good fun in the morning before the wedding.

My hair was done by Louise Alway and again, she made me feel great and did a wonderful job!

Grooms Attire

Jacob’s suit was from Reiss. In true male style we just went into the shop one afternoon, tried on two suits and that was it! It was charcoal grey with oxblood brown belt and shoes (also from Reiss). The Groomsmen wore navy spotted ties from Topman and navy cat socks. Jacob wore a tie pin that belonged to his Dad who passed away 5 years ago. He also gave small initial tie pins from Etsy to the Groomsmen.

Venue

At first we struggled to find a venue that suited us and offered the laid back feel we were looking for. Food was a really important feature for us and when we read that Cripps Stone Barn had the biggest open fire BBQ in the UK we had to visit it! We fell in love with the venue as soon as we arrived as it is set in the beautiful Cotswolds country side. The staff were so professional and helpful in the run up and made sure that everything ran smoothly on the day.

Colour scheme/décor

We had no real plan but just stuck to things we liked. The venue is so stunning that it required very little decoration. My Brother’s girlfriend Eleri hand knitted some bunting to decorate the barn and Jake’s Sister made some lace bunting to match. We then borrowed a lot of white bunting from friends. We also decorated the barn with pictures of us with our families and friends.

Florist

Our florist Go Wild Flowers was incredible. All we asked for was a laid back summer flowers look and she did the rest! All of the tables were decorated with wild summer flowers in bottles and jars and the beams in the barn were decorated with ivy. Coincidently the colours matched the invitations, orders of service and table numbers that Jacob made so it all worked perfectly. My bouquet contained peonies and white roses and the Bridesmaids all had babies’ breath bouquets.

Wedding Party Fashion

I had 6 Bridesmaids who are all different shapes and sizes so instead of trying to pick one dress that suited them all I opted for Marks and Spencer multi way dresses in navy. I let the Bridesmaids all wear their dresses however they liked and do their hair in their own styles. I wanted everyone to still look like themselves.

The Groomsmen all wore their own suits but somehow all ended up in navy (which matched the Bridesmaids perfectly).

The Ceremony

because of the way stone barn was laid out we said our vows with our family and friends sat either side of us. This was really lovely as we could see everyone around us instead of standing at the front with our backs to them. Our friend Jaime who had flown over from Canada did a lovely reading for us and our school friend Sam Fox played the harp as I walked down the aisle. After we signed the register Sam and her partner Ricardo performed ‘Calon lan’, a welsh hymn, which was a really special moment for us.

Entertainment

In the evening we hired Boutique Disco from Cardiff. We had met Grant at other friends’ weddings and loved how he didn’t play any cheese and kept the dance floor full all night! Since our wedding we have had so many compliments on the music.

Food

Cripps Stone Barn’s food was incredible! We loved how they catered for ‘family style’ shared dining. We opted for sirloin steaks joints cooked on the barbeque with chips and salad. We put aprons on each table and one guest had to carve the meat for each table. It was really good fun and was a good talking point for the guests! We had halloumi and cocktail sausages in honey and mustard for canapés served with mojitos or peroni after the ceremony. We had Crème Brule for dessert and a hog roast in the evening.

Our wedding cake was made by our good friend Polly Frost who is a professional baker. It was a naked Victoria sponge and was delicious! My Mum and her friends made heart shaped Welsh cakes as favours and we had a sweet table (which also included crisps) as well!

Photographer

As soon as we got engaged my Brother’s girlfriend said she knew the perfect photographer for us. She showed me Eleanor Jane’s website and I instantly fell in love with her photos. They are so clean modern that I knew she would be perfect. We met with Eleanor over coffee and she showed us some of her Queensberry albums which sealed the deal! I am usually a really indecisive person but our photographer was one of the first things we booked and was the thing that I felt most secure about in the run up to the wedding. When we first looked at the photos I was completely overwhelmed. Eleanor captured the feel of the day so perfectly and we have some really unique, special photos.

We also had a Photo booth in the evening which was really good fun and means that we have loads of pictures of friends and family.

Advice

Our wedding day was really fun and we both loved every minute of it. My only advice would be not to take it too seriously, try to keep focusing on what you both want and enjoy!
