I feel like I’ve been transported into a fairytale! There’s a unicorn, yes you heard me right, a unicorn oh and the most gorgeous Princess Bride in a lace fishtail Lela Rose gown with her dashing Prince by her side in a fitted navy blue suit.
Of course our real life fairytale couple just had to have the most whimsical setting for their wedding and Aynhoe Park with all its unique decor and country grounds fitted the bill perfectly. There is so much to marvel and feast your eyes on as well as some of the most gorgeous blooms, stationery and adorable cake I’ve seen.
Suffice to say, I love every element of this classic wedding day, and I’m certain you will too.
Katie The Bride: James and I met through friends and I realised pretty quickly this was the man I wanted to marry. After a low-key proposal five years later (I was curled up on the sofa wearing my pajamas!) we set a date and started planning for our wedding 18 months later.
We wanted a cool and quirky venue that really reflected our personalities and we fell in love with Aynhoe Park as soon as we stepped foot inside the grounds. It was first place we looked but we didn’t bother to visit anywhere else and booked it that same day! It’s such a fun, magical venue, the kind of place that doesn’t take itself too seriously. And all those animals! lions, giraffes and polar bears everywhere you look… We knew it would be the ultimate party venue for our wedding.
When it came to planning the day, we wanted a traditional English garden party for the reception and the huge lawn at Aynhoe Park fitted the bill perfectly. Our wedding date fell on June 21st, the longest day of the year, and we really wanted part of it to be outside but we knew we would be at the mercy of the British weather! Thankfully we were incredibly lucky on the day, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and we had bright sunshine all day long.
We hired outdoor games like croquet, boules and giant Jenga to keep everyone entertained and the airstream trailer photo booth we’d hired went down a storm with our guests.
We didn’t have a strong colour scheme for the flowers or Bridesmaid dresses, we just wanted soft romantic shades that wouldn’t have to compete with the feast for the senses that is Aynhoe Park.
Our wonderful florist Vic from Scarlet & Violet created the most beautiful array of blooms in soft peach, blush and parchment tones, a mix of peonies, hydrangeas, roses arranged in jam jars so guests could take them home at the end of the night.
The photography was one of the most important things for us on the day and as soon as we saw Marianne’s portfolio we knew we wanted her to photograph our wedding. She and her lovely assistant Susanna captured the day perfectly – all the smiles, laughter and tears just as we’d remembered them! We’ll treasure those photos forever.
Ultimately we wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our love but also a big party where our friends and family could really let their hair down, and that’s exactly what it was. I wish we could do it all over again!
