FAQS

Is the Museum licenced for marriages and civil partnership ceremonies?

All of our indoor spaces are licenced for civil ceremonies. We will connect you with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to check availability and book your registrar Please note, this is a separate cost to the venue hire fee, paid directly to the Registry Office.

What is included in the venue hire fee?

The hire fee includes exclusive use of your chosen event spaces, a venue manager, security staff, cleaning staff and an onsite technician. Other costs to consider are a planner, catering, production (for lighting, audio visual and dance floor), flowers and entertainment from the approved list.

How many guests can I invite?

We have a variety of rooms available, with lots of different capacities. For a legal ceremony, we can host up to 200 guests, which is what we normally advise as an upper limit for your reception as well. If you are interested in hosting a larger party, please contact the team directly to discuss.

Can we use our own suppliers?

Due to the nature of the building and short set up times, we require all couples to use our list of approved suppliers for catering, production, floristry and entertainment. This ensures the Museum is protected and you receive high quality service from suppliers who know the Museum. For other suppliers, such as your wedding cake, photographer and videographer you are welcome to make your own selection – though we do have plenty of suggestions!

Do we have to use a wedding planner?

We require all our wedding couples to work with a wedding planner on the day of their wedding. This is so that you can focus on enjoying your day, while an experienced planner oversees the coordination. All our approved planners can offer full planning services, or just on-the-day support if you prefer.

Can we supply our own drinks?

You are welcome to provide your own drinks. We don’t charge a corkage fee but your chosen caterer will charge an amount to chill, deliver, hire glasses and serve the drink.

Can we dance in the museum?

You are welcome to dance but there needs to be a dance floor. This can be arranged through one of our approved production companies.

Are there any restrictions in the museum?

As a listed building, fireworks, sparklers, confetti, helium balloons, naked flames and dry ice are not permitted inside the Museum or in the outdoor spaces. Due to the floors and collection, red wine can only be served at seated dinners.

Do we have to end at 23:00?

We love seeing wedding guests dance the night away! For a limited number of evenings a year, we are able to host guests until midnight, and occasionally 01:00. These extensions are subjects to availability, and should be discussed with the Events Team.
