FAQS

What is a Sunset Wedding?

During the day, the Roman Baths and Pump Room operate as a visitor attraction and restaurant. In the evening, once closed to the public, these amazing venues are available for private hire. Ceremonies are available from 7.30pm, so depending on the time of year, you really can marry at Sunset. It is also possible to marry before the museum opens, at 8.30am - a Sunrise Wedding. If you would like to continue celebrations, the adjoining Pump Room Restaurant is the perfect breakfast venue with its delicious food, stunning surroundings and music from the Pump Room Trio. For those that prefer no fuss, a morning ceremony can be the start of a fantastic elopement wedding package and we would be delighted to provide witnesses for you.

How old is the venue?

The Roman Baths and Pump Room is at the heart of the City of Bath World Heritage site. The complex, uniquely based around the only naturally hot water spring in Britain, is steeped in over 2000 years of history. Water rises hot and bubbling at 46 degrees, warmed by the earth’s core. The site of this extraordinary phenomenon prompted the Celts to adopt the spring as the home for their goddess and following the Roman invasion, a grand religious spa complex was built on this site in c.75AD.

What are my options following my ceremony?

The Roman Baths and Pump Room offer some of the most stunning and iconic spaces in the UK, perfect for evening wedding receptions and parties. After your ceremony, and depending on the number of guests attending, you can have a reception in either the Pump Room, or on the Terrace. The beautiful and elegant room Pump Room has been at the heart of Bath’s social life since the 1700s. It can accommodate 160 guests for a wedding reception and is available from 8pm. It has a stage for live music and a dance floor for your guests. The adjoining King's Lounge, overlooking the hot spring, makes a convenient location for a bar, for a night you will never forget. For smaller receptions, the Terrace, overlooking the Great Bath provides an intimate space for dinner for up to 80 guests and can be followed by dancing in the stunning adjoining Reception Hall. Designed for concerts, with its stunning domed Four Seasons ceiling, the Reception Hall now makes a fabulous area for dancing to a band or DJ. The central oval ticketing desk can be transformed into a fully stocked bar to set the scene for an impressive party. The Terrace and Reception Hall are available from 7pm.
