In England at the moment you will have to make sure your marriage is legalised by a registrar. This can be done at your local registry office at any time before or after your wedding day. Just you and two witnesses can sign the register and say your legal vows without fuss - this costs £46 (Jan 24). This frees you up to do anything and say anything as part of your wedding ceremony - no restrictions on time or place or what you can have as part of your ceremony. Unlike registrars, Celebrants tend to have only one wedding a day looking after that couple giving them a fabulous service for their all important ceremony. Registrars may have 5 or more weddings to officiate on that day so timings are very important to them - celebrants are less rushed on the day and can give you lots more time. It does mean, however, that Celebrants have fewer spaces to offer you - especially in the busy wedding season so, if you have a favourite Celebrant, it's best to book them early to avoid disappointment. If you are booking out of season or on a day mid-week, you might find your celebrant still has availability - so ask as soon as you can and get your precious date booked in soon!
