What is the difference between a celebrant and a registrar ?
At the moment only a registrar can provide a legal service on behalf of the government with the prime objective being that you are legally able to marry. Once this is achieved a Celebrant - celebrates that fact with your family and friend in a joyous ceremony that is created for the two of you. This can take place anywhere and any time that it is legal to gather. The possibilities are endless with remembrance candles, hand-fasting, and ring warming to name just a few of the rituals.
How do I get to know my couples?
As a celebrant, I love speaking to people but realise that many are really busy so I aim for a mix of video calls, questionnaires, and meeting at the venue to suit you. The questionnaires are fun and can be filled in as a date night or if preferred we can do it in a call. I also use WhatsApp to send documents and ask quick questions.
Do you allow pets in the ceremony?
It's your ceremony and if you think your pet is going to be OK and you have someone to look after them, then why not but beware I fell in love with the Husky ring bearer.
How can I include my children in the ceremony?
Your ceremony is all about you becoming a family so it is lovely when couples request a unity candle ceremony or a sand ritual where we can involve children. I have written a hand fasting where the children laid the ribbons over the hands and another where their hands were bound in with the parents. It's your ceremony so what you want happens.
Do I have to have traditional vows?
Whatever you want - I can offer a variety of styles for vows from very traditional to using lyrics of the songs in the ceremonies or just lovely heartfelt words.
How do you justify your fee?
I have undergone comprehensive training, and belong to a group that provides updating and development. Each couple's ceremony is written from scratch not a template. Each piece of music is listened to for what it means to the couple and woven into the ceremony. I suggest poems or readings that can provide a unique wedding gift to each other. Rituals are written to reveal thoughts and memories, I aim to make your guest laugh and maybe shed a tear too. There is travel time and lots of prep time after the writing to make it sound effortless on the day. I produce keepsake booklets of any readings/ poems and of course, your vows as well as your chosen cords for the handfasting, but believe me on the day it is an amazing ceremony that you and your guests will never forget.
