Our Story
Alicia the Bride: We met on the first day of our Masters course, in Manchester and have been together six years.
In 2014 we both quit our jobs to go travelling for a year. The week before we left, Simon proposed at my family home. He wanted me to take a walk with him in my favourite part of the garden, but it was cold and I said no… He went ahead and asked me anyway.
Wedding
We had a big wedding, with lots of family and family friends, so it was really important that the day felt very personal and intimate despite there actually being nearly 200 people there!
I'm a very high-stress person, so it was also really important that everything was organised in advance with nothing left for us (me) to worry about.
We both wanted quite informal outfits that still felt very special.
Flowers
Our florist,
Amie Bone, masterminded our incredible flowers. She was the third florist I saw, after having been turned down by one and let go by another, and my only brief was that I wanted suspended floral arrangements from the roof of the marquee and a wildflower feel. Amy's such an incredible force of nature that she just ran with it and gave us exactly what we wanted.
Photography
I hate having my photo taken so we wanted someone fun to have around. We met
Miss Gen in a pub in Walthamstow and she showed some of her incredible albums. She also sat through Simon and I having an argument about me being 30 minutes late without flinching, so that settled it!
Gen captured so much more of our special day than I imagined. We only had 6 formal photos but Gen managed to capture all of the special people in our lives as well as so many incredible photos of the two of us.
I love the photo of the two of us in the field, with the sun behind us. It's really unstaged, I was genuinely sinking into the grass, and it just nails the two of us.
Entertainment
We had an incredible
band and lots of enthusiastic dancers! No other entertainment at all.
Our first dance song was Hall and Oates: You Make My Dreams.
Vibe/Style
Greens, creams and gold. Woodland, to match the church.
Memorable Moments
The ceremony was incredibly emotional.
Words of Wisdom
Don't sweat the details so much. Nobody notices anything bar the two of you, not really.
