How To Ask "Will You Be My Bridesmaid?"

Photography by Anna Clarke Photography

We've seen every iteration of wedding party over the years, from Best Women to Bridesmen. We're not here to say in any way that your bridal party has to take a certain shape or form or gender configuration. Your day, your way. But we are here to answer your questions and one of those is how to ask "Will you be my bridesmaid?" to your favourites. We have seen many a fierce bridesmaid image on Rock My Wedding. These trusted few friends or family will be around to offer you support on the lead up to your wedding day and then on the day itself. It's a big task and one that deserves a proper proposal. We've come up with a few ideas on how to ask "Will you be my bridesmaid?" below.

Bridesmaid Proposal Gifts

Whilst this element is certainly not necessary for proposing to your bridesmaids, it does make for a very sweet gesture and needn't break the bank. Some ideas of things to include in a bridesmaid gift box are fizz (alcoholic or non), chocolates, jewellery (perhaps even something you'd like to see them wear on the day?), a fave candle, personalised biscuits, etc. There are tonnes of super personalised bridesmaid gifts online, but you can always make up a budget-friendly option with a few inexpensive items you know your girls will love.

Bridesmaid Proposal Cards

A beautiful card that pops the question for you would be a perfect addition to said gift box, or if you're not into the idea of a gift box, a simple and elegant statement on its own. Choose to write something personal, special or even a funny anecdote for each of your besties on their cards. Let them know what they mean to you and why you want them there on your big day. There are a load of bridesmaid cards available online, but also check your favourite wedding stationers as many will have ranges that you can buy from on their sites.

Make a Date With Your Bridesmaids

And then there is the good old fashioned way of just making a date to see your chosen girls individually and asking them in person. No gifts or cards required (unless you want to of course). With us all missing out on some quality time with our loved ones in these recent times, it makes for a very special moment indeed. Whether that's over your favourite takeaway on the sofa or at a fancy afternoon tea.

When Should I Ask "Will You Be My Bridesmaid?"

Really whenever feels best for you. Bear in mind that the sooner you ask, the sooner you can create your bridal party WhatsApp group and get all the wedding chat happening. You can also get their valued input on those early and important decisions like finding your venue and photographer

However you've chosen to ask "will you be my bridesmaid?" we know that your girls will be over the moon to be involved in your big day. If you want a bit more inspiration and information on all things bridesmaids then I highly suggest you tune into our podcast episode on Bridesmaids. There are a few anecdotes in there that you don't want to miss (one may involve bum flashing). You have been warned.
