So while I technically haven't had a wedding day yet, I do have extremely shiny (greasy) skin that I've battled with since my teenage years. It's only in recent months that I seem to have got it under control and that is down to one amazing product...
Ultra Bland the cult cleanser from
Lush. If you are yet to come across this gem of a product, then allow me to introduce you...
Ultra Bland is a really rich cleanser that you apply straight on to skin and then gently wash away with a flannel or muslin. As with all Lush products the smell is so amazing you feel like you could eat it. And the 100% natural ingredients mean that you know you're not covering your face in harsh or abrasive chemicals. The texture is VERY rich and oily. So much so, that the first time you apply Ultra Bland it is quite a shock. But it really WORKS.
I noticed my skin change after using this at night for just a couple of days. Far fewer blemishes and my skin was much less greasy. Now I've been using it for a few months, it's rare that I get any spots (and when I do they are usually hormone or stress related. Or because I've been lazy and used a quicker face wash in the shower - note to self - never stray from the
Ultra Bland). My previous skin care routine hadn't really evolved from my teenage years and I was still scrubbing away at it with all sorts of horrible blemish banning exfoliators.
If your wedding day is creeping up on you and you're worried about excess shine, then give this product a go and see whether it makes a difference to your skin. We all know that the key to looking gorgeous with make up on, is having good skin underneath. And on that note, as a base under my make up, I also use their
Enzymion moisturiser, it's really hydrating but also mattifying. Again I notice a difference immediately in the oiliness of my skin when I don't use it. I'm yet to find a base or primer that does the same as this bad boy.
If you're having your make up done professionally, then your artist will be able to help you with products that will keep shine at bay, but it's always a good idea to have two products in your clutch bag to banish shine throughout the day -
blotting papers and a shine control powder. I like the
Laura Mercier Pressed Setting Powder because it's not coloured and it's so finely milled you don't feel as if you're layering powder on top of grease on top of foundation - such a horrible feeling.
Do you have any shine-banishing products you'd care to share? I'd love to hear! If you're after more skincare tips then do check out our sister blog,
