Inspiration

There are lots of places you can draw inspiration from your wedding. Songs, books, tv, and even horror movies can spark your imagination. Chloe Mary Photo was inspired by The Shining to bring us this stylish horror movie wedding cake and decor at, Recommended wedding venue, The Shack Revolution. The 'til death' neon sign is genius, the candles atmospheric and the hat and embroidered veil iconic. Just make sure you check under the bed before you start reading this... Just kidding. Enjoy!

Stylish horror movie wedding cake with geometric design and red drip icing for a contemporary inspiration shoot in an industrial venue.

I wanted to create a dark, romantic shoot using The Shining as inspiration but with a level of modern sophistication. The Shack Revolution is an urban industrial oasis in the heart of Hereford City Centre. The perfect blank canvas for the shoot.

HORROR MOVIE WEDDING CAKE

I was looking for somewhere that was not only a functional wedding venue but, somewhere that also had more of an edge with its 'industrial' elements.  The Shack provided the shoot with that 'slightly eery' yet warm vibe that matched in with the films cinematic style. The geometric horror movie wedding cake with drip design also looked perfect against the striking black and white mural painted by All Frills Studio

STYLING

Tara and Zara worked together to create the perfect blend of textures. They layered fabrics and dried/ fresh florals and kept the atmosphere warm with lots of candlelight. I knew I wanted a typewriter featured somewhere within the shoot, and was overjoyed when our model Marilyn would be able to loan this incredible vintage typewriter. The PERFECT nod to the typewriter scene, and another example of bringing in elements without being too literal.

BEAUTY

Our amazing bridal wear supplier Waxflower Bridal loaned us the Iris Slip dress and Laura Top combo by Halfpenny London for the first look and the Bien Bridal Jumpsuit/ Valentim cape by House Of Ollichon for the 2nd look - paired with the veil/ Fedora combo by Rebecca Anne Designs.

70s hair with partings and waves. And 70s makeup with defined eye makeup and barely-there lipsticks complete this contemporary inspiration inspired by The Shinning.

I love to use non-traditional inspiration for my shoots and to showcase to couples that you can find inspiration from anywhere. This can include your favourite movies. Whether you're a horror, thriller, or rom-com fan just remember you don't need to be too literal. Simply by taking small elements, you can make your day look epic and less 'themed'.

I've never really thought of a drip cake as a horror movie wedding cake before, but boy does it fit in perfectly with this contemporary inspiration. For more wedding cake ideas see our article full of inspiring designs.
