Our Story
Louise the Bride: We met working in television. Exactly one year after our very first date, we were in Madrid celebrating my birthday when Oliver popped the question while rowing on a lake. We were engaged for just over a year before our wedding day.
Wedding
We really wanted it to be a relaxed occasion in spite of it's importance to us. Hassle free and as fun as possible!
Fashion
I chose a dress from Parisian designer '
Cymbeline' which was bought from '
Mirror Mirror' in London. I wore handmade jewellery by Mariko Doi which we found together at a flea market in Stoke Newington. Oliver's suit was tailor made with '
Reiss', shoes from 'Oliver Sweeney' and glasses by 'Bailey Nelson'.
Flowers
Our flowers were done by a very talented friend of ours with a company called '
Bloom & Burn'. As the wedding was near the end of August, we decided we wanted deep berry reds, eucalyptus greens, and soft pinks. To make sure the flowers were the focus, we kept everything else simple with white table linen, paper decorations and simple lighting.
Ceremony
During the ceremony we had a short reading taken from \'the nightmare before christmas\' read by my sister Natasha. Our 7 month old baby Otis was the ring bearer. Whilst we signed the register, our friend Bassi performed Elvis' 'can't help falling in love' & sam cooke's '(what a) wonderful world'.
Photography
We were immediately drawn to Genevieve's photography. Her style was exactly what we were looking for; not overly formal but with complete care for capturing the moment.
We couldn't be happier with choosing
Miss Gen. She has been lovely to work with from day one and throughout the whole process. The photographs she took on the day are exceptional. We love that not only does the collection capture the whole day perfectly, but each individual shot feels special in its own way. She has a charming & relaxed way of working with a special eye for detail.
Favourite photos
Choosing favourite photos has been a mammoth task. We chose some from the lovely slideshow Genevieve had put together and still ended up with over 70! We love the portraits that were taken during the late afternoon in locations we had selected and that Genevieve suggested. There's one in particular as we're walking back to the pub; Me smiling directly at the camera, the light behind is lovely and you can see how happy we both are. There's also a really great photo when I am holding Otis who has his ear-defenders on while the three of us are dancing together and there's another when Oliver is whispering in my ear as I laughs, it's such a sweet moment but it was a rude joke!
Music
Our first dance was to Aretha Franklin's 'I say a little prayer'. I have always loved that track and it just felt perfect for that moment. We also had a second first dance later that night to R Kelly's 'Ignition (remix)'. Other special songs played for the service were taken from movies we love; 'Bella Notte' from Lady & the Tramp, the theme from Jurassic Park, Chuck Berry's 'you never can tell' and I walked down the aisle to 'you're so cool' the theme from 'True Romance'.
Vibe/Style
Although effort obviously went in to the planning, the day itself was very laid back. We didn't want to worry about anything other than celebrating with our friends & family.
Memorable Moments
There were so many special moments; Otis giving us the rings, my speech, walking out of the town hall as a married couple. Mainly just taking time to look out at everyone gathered helping us celebrate.
Words of Wisdom
Plan a wedding that suits you, don't worry about what anyone else might do for their day. Remember once the day starts, the planning is over and so is the hard work.
