A pub wedding reception? A drag queen? We are there. Ruth & Marks wedding was everything they dreamed of, and a little more. Taking place in the beautiful Wentworth Village of South Yorkshire, their style of the day was intimate, cosy, and rustic. With subtle nods to musical theatre (Ruth is a singer - once appearing on the Voice UK), their table name pictures were different items from the song ‘My Favourite Things’ featured in The Sound Of Music. Their reception ended at the Rockingham Arms pub, featuring DIY projects, such as foliage from their garden and antique bottles. We really can’t get enough of the cosy atmosphere vibes from that pub reception!
What Made Our Day Unique
We planned the wedding rather fast due to my father being terminally ill. When his illness progressed faster than we'd hoped we had a ceremony in the hospice and our legal ceremony soon after. My dad still wanted me to have my dream wedding. It was like a wintery country fete with a sprinkling of showbiz, We had a drag queen and my bridesmaids perform. The wedding was in the picturesque Wentworth Village, every door is painted forest green and everything was walking distance from each other - it felt very intimate, like the village was ours for the day.Ruth & Mark
Quite frankly, the Rockingham Arms could not be more picturesque if it tried. This ivy-clad 19th century pub is set in the equally beautiful village of Wentworth; featuring cobbled stones, brown stone houses, and quiet streets. We absolutely love how intimate and atmospheric Ruth & Marks reception looks - a true testament to ensuring your day is a total reflection of you and being comfortable!
Advice For Planning Your Wedding
Wedding Fayres are great, but don't go to TOO many, especially if you're on a budget, the pressure to book everything ever is real. We catered the evening ourselves with cheese, chutney, crackers and cupcakes, it was super cheap. Car boots and markets can be treasure troves - I got all my table decorations, and my table runner hessian for about £30.00. If you’re making your own petal confetti, next time you buy flowers ask the florist for the offcuts from the floor - they’ll only be going in the bin!Ruth & Mark
Your reception doesn’t have to break the bank, nor does it have to be a flashy affair (but if that’s your vibe, go for it!) Sometimes, a small and intimate setting can be just the thing for you. If a pub wedding reception has tickled your fancy, check out this Crouch End Pub Wedding for a little inspo! Or how about Balham Bowls Club? Honestly, we’ve got pub inspiration by the bucketload…
