We make the weddings that when you have a big reunion with friends in 10 years time, they all say 'yours was the best wedding we ever went to...'

FAQS

What are your maximum numbers?

A comfortable maximum is 100 daytime and 140 evening

Do we have to book a package?

You can either book a package, or we can put a package together specifically based on your budget, numbers and requirements - every couple has a different need, so flexibility is the key!

Can we get legally married inside and outside?

We have a few options for both! Inside options are the Court Room (1st floor via steps), and the Danby Castle Barn (fully accessible) and the Horse Engine Shed which is undercover but has 1 side fully open into the courtyard. Outside - if you are not using the Horse Engine Shed then you can have the North Yorkshire Registrars perform an 'outside/inside' ceremony where you do everything outside and then pop into a licensed area to sign the register.

Accessibility?

We are a 'scheduled ancient monument' and as such the ruins are hard to access without steps. The barn is totally accessible and we have accessible toilets too.

Is your bar really expensive?

We try to keep our prices as near to pub prices as we can. We will not charge £10 for a glass of wine or pint...maybe in 2030 but not now!

Testimonials

Nick and I wanted to email and say a massive thank you for putting on such a fabulous wedding for us! We loved every minute of it and a lot of the smoothness of the day definitely comes down to you, Phil and your amazing team! We felt so welcomed from the first time we visited you and we always felt like you listened and then gave the best advice from all of your experience. Also we know we asked a lot especially when it came to the different foods but if you could pass on a huge thank you to the chef because everyone kept talking about how incredible all the food was so we're so grateful you were happy to put in all that extra effort to make our day that bit more special. We're now away in Nepal but will send over some official photos when they come in! Thanks for the most amazing venue, day, food and great atmosphere! Krysy and Nick x

Thank you so much for an amazing day! It was truly perfect. Carolyn, Phil (and Max) made it a very special day that we will never forget. We received so many compliments about the venue, the smooth running of the day, the food and the drink. Those pies were absolutely delicious!! Our guests were blown away by the venue itself and the views across the North Yorkshire Moors. We would certainly recommend anyone considering a wedding at Danby Castle to book it!!

Thank you so much for helping to make our day super special. You are absolute stars and we feel so lucky to have found the perfect venue and the perfect team to help us plan our big day. From rescuing Gemma on a visit when our car got stuck in the ice (Carolyn) to reattaching Kris' buttonhole and calming him down with a whisky before the ceremony (Phil), we truly appreciate everything you did for us.

Since my daughter Sarah was born I have dreamt of her wedding day & how it would be. In a spectacular & magical setting, inside & out, with wonderful food & surrounded by family & friends. And of course a beautiful bride, a handsome husband full of love & devotion for each other. Never at any time did my dreams come up to what happened on Sunday. Danby Castle is the perfect setting for a wedding amidst romantic ruins & stunning scenes of the North Yorks Moors. Importantly for Sarah & I were the rooms where the wedding itself took place. Over 500 year old & with links to Catherine Parr, Henry VIII's last wife, Sarah was never going to want to be married anywhere else. The barn where the reception took place with it's wooden beams, stone walls, fairy lights & intimate side rooms completed the magic. Of course a lot of planning goes into a wedding & the magic started when Sarah & Darran met the amazing Carolyn & family who own the castle. They are wonderful hosts & make every wedding unique & completely tailored to the couple's taste. The options Sarah & Darran were offered were immense & it was a hard choice. Everything from formal wedding breakfasts to ice-cream & fish & chip vans in the courtyard. Sarah & Darran opted for a Mad Hatter's tea party. The table settings were quirky with, of course, mis-matched crockery, perfect for an Alice in Wonderland fan. Max's unerring eye for detail provided the perfect decoration. The food was fantastic & so much of it; finger sandwiches, savouries, scones, exquisite desserts & huge drink me teapots full of tea. The evening supper was equally wonderful & I don't know how I didn't burst out of my dress. All the staff led by Carolyn, Phil & Max, provided a wonderful service, unobtrusive, friendly & always there to see that everyone was well looked after & never short of anything. Even at the end of the evening when our taxi was nearly an hour late, Carolyn & Phil continued to welcome us into their home & were even going to take us home themselves. This truly was a happy, magical & wonderful day which we will never forget. I cannot recommend Danby Castle & Carolyn and family enough for this. I think I will have to get married again so I can relive this day again. Carole Benson. xxx
