Will guests find Houchins easily?

Yes. Houchins is located just off the A120 near Coggeshall and is clearly signposted where the drive meets the A120.

How many car parking spaces does the venue have?

There is ample parking for weddings at Houchins and cars may be left overnight, at the owner’s risk. Collection the following morning is between 9.00am and 11.00am.

What is included in the venue hire price?

How many guests can we seat for a civil ceremony?

We are licensed for up to 150 guests in the Marquee and Grain Store and 120 in the Foundry. For more intimate weddings we can sit up to 26 in the oak-panelled drawing room in the house. How many guests can Houchins accommodate to sit down for the wedding breakfast? We can comfortably seat 150 guests in the Grain Store – 100 downstairs and 50 upstairs in the mezzanine. Do speak to the team about your seating plan options.

What do we do about music during the civil ceremony?

For the civil ceremony you can have live music or bring your own pre-recorded music to play on our PA system. Due to licensing restrictions there is no amplified music allowed outside after the ceremony.

When can we have access to set up the venue?

Access to the venue is from 10am on the morning of the wedding but if there is no wedding booked the day before you can set up from noon until 4pm on that day.

Do you have disabled access?

There is disabled access to the indoor and outdoor civil ceremony areas and the main reception barn and loos. The only inaccessible area for wheelchairs is the mezzanine gallery.

What photographic locations do you have at Houchins?

There are numerous photographic locations at Houchins including the beautiful wedding garden, the pond, the front of the listed farmhouse and seasonally permitting the huge straw bales and wonderful borage fields when it is in bloom. In addition, as we are a working farm, there are a number of rustic barns that provide a wonderfully characterful backdrop. See our Gallery on the website for more.

Are we able to hire the house the night before our wedding?

If the house is available we are delighted for you to hire it. It makes the most of your stay at Houchins allowing you to set up the day before your wedding so your wedding day is all about you and your wedding party. Please ask a member of our team for details.

Do you have props to decorate the venue?

Yes we have a wide selection of props that perfectly suit the venue from uplighters to ceiling drapes and cast iron braziers with logs to tall oak barrels – just ask a member of the team to give you the full list and prices.

Does the venue have air conditioning?

There is air conditioning in the dance barn.

Can we have a band?

Yes you are very welcome to hire a band for the evening. See some of our preferred music partners on the website.

Are we allowed confetti?

Yes - we only ask that you use real petals to be knder to the environment.

A truly magical experience Dear All I was mother of the bride on Tuesday 31st May and feel compelled to write a quick message to let you know what a fantastic time you delivered to our family and all our guests. The venue is amazing, every member of staff we encounteredon the day had a smile and a willingness to help anyone and everyone. The weather was pretty awful and the day could have been memorable for all the wrong reasons if Houchins hadn't delivered us first class service all day. I understand from Krystina and Tommy that you put virtually no restrictions on things they wanted, from first enquiry, to the actual day. This was definitely a massive plus and one of the reasons why they chose your venue, even down to us being able to provide our own alcohol during the ceremony etc. The catering company were so obliging and helpful throughout and delivered us all a delicious meal and canapes throughout the day.
