Inspiration

Nicola and Dan decided to marry now, and party later, and what a beautiful first wedding ceremony they had! Surrounded by 12 of their closest family and friends at St. Oswald's Church (and a handful of rebels outside) they said 'I do' before heading to their local pub in style; in Dan's Uncle's Morris Minor. Brides on a budget will definitely want to know how Nicola purchased her chic white slip wedding dress for a fraction of the price.

Nicola chose a chic white slip wedding dress as her 'interim dress' before their wedding party next year.

We had a micro wedding of 14 people (including us) in the middle of the pandemic. As we were unable to sing in church due to Covid, during our hymn 'Give me joy in my heart' the church provided us all with shakers that we all shook along to the organist!

WHITE SLIP WEDDING DRESS

The styling of the dress was New York City chic vibes. Due to this being an ‘interim dress’, I didn’t want to take the shine off of the ‘blessing’ we will share with all our friends and family next year. The rest of the styling was based on pastel pink and navy.

FAVOURITE MOMENT

Popping the champagne for our first drink as husband and wife! The whole day was amazing, just the intimacy of the wedding, and spending our most precious moments with our closest family.

BUDGETING

It is possible to do a wedding on any budget. The marquee was already at the venue and so wasn’t extra; the confetti cones were handmade; the slip dress was a bridesmaid dress (a fraction of the price); we didn’t have a cake; and we had the reception at the most amazing pub. Only buy what you can afford because it’s not other people’s day, it’s yours, and it’s all about the people around you.

PERSONAL TOUCHES

Dan's uncle kindly leant us his car to take us from the church to The Carpenters Pub. Dan's dad worked on it when he was younger (he sadly passed in December 2019) which made the wedding even more special. It was a beautiful Morris Minor. This wedding is also only part one and we will celebrate with all friends and family next year at the award winning Thief Hall Cottages.

Top tip: Nicola's white slip wedding dress was a fraction of the price as it was a bridesmaid gown.

For anything we hadn’t bought prior to March 2020, we chose our local suppliers and from small businesses to support them, as we knew they would have been through some hard times in the pandemic.

Name a better duo than a white slip wedding dress and a micro wedding. We'll wait. Seriously though, we love a stylish slip for an intimate wedding day!
