Forget the old rules and traditions. From lab-grown brilliance to vintage symbolism, the modern engagement ring is rewriting the language of love, one ethically sourced gemstone at a time.

Most importantly, remember that an engagement ring shows your partner how you feel and reminds them of your commitment to them. With this in mind, the actual price of the engagement ring is less important than ensuring it’s a piece they’ll love to wear for many years to come,” James concludes
Women and their partner's attitudes towards engagement rings are shifting significantly. More couples are choosing to shop together or involve those closest to them to make sure the ring feels uniquely hers.
Social media has also heightened visibility and pressure around engagements - cue Raye's viral 'WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!’- inspiring more direct conversations about marriage sooner rather than later.
People are becoming much more informed about what a lab-grown diamond truly is. There’s a growing awareness of the impact that climate change and pollution have on our planet, and ethical and sustainable choices are now at the forefront of many consumers’ minds, especially among the younger generation. As a result, we’re seeing lab-grown diamonds rise rapidly in popularity, even outselling mined and other non-mined gemstones. It’s clear that there’s a real shift happening, with couples moving away from traditional mined diamonds in favour of options that align more closely with their values and their vision for a more sustainable future.
Choosing a larger stone purely for status or appearance can sometimes give the impression that prestige matters more than personal meaning. But at the heart of it, an engagement ring is a symbol of love, commitment, and connection, and love, of course, can’t be measured by the size of a diamond. Swapping or enlarging the original stone too soon can take away from that unique sentiment and, in some cases, even place strain on a relationship. That said, there’s something beautiful about the idea of evolving a ring over time, upgrading it later to reflect the couple’s journey and how their love has grown.
Quality and meaning matter more than price; smaller stones, alternative gems or unique settings can be just as special. More and more people are focusing on the symbolic or emotional value of rings rather than the monetary value.
We’ve also noticed more clients wanting to rework family heirlooms. Clients love the idea of giving antique-cut stones a fresh, modern setting. It’s such a lovely way to keep sentimental value while creating something fresh and new (One of our clients recently asked us to create an engagement ring from his fiancée’s grandmother’s brooch, which turned out beautifully)
