Inspiration

We love it when brides combine comfort and style. And Emily certainly nailed that brief with her wedding Doc Martens and tulle gown. The fact that they held a special meaning too makes them even more incredible. The homemade and sentimental touches continued throughout the rest of the micro wedding with personalised vows, a reception at home and a cake topper including miniatures of the whole family. Rhiannon and Josh also had the cutest cake toppers with face masks. So apt for anyone planning a covid secure wedding right now.

A micro wedding organised in 4 weeks with the bride killing it in wedding Doc Martens and a tulle bridal gown.

We were due to get married in August but moved the date to next year. As the date grew nearer we felt pretty rubbish about not being able to go ahead so arranged the entire wedding in just 4 weeks. It had to be 'Covid Secure' so numbers were very small, just us and our children at the service and close family in our back garden for the reception. The fact that it was so small actually made it feel more significant and special. We were able to spend time with all of our guests and everyone helped in some way. From going to collect the food from Wagamama's to putting music on. The fact that many hadn't socialised much at all over the summer meant that the occasion had even more significance.

COMFORTABLE

We wanted the wedding to feel relaxed but obviously special. We started to jokingly use the term 'rustic' whenever we described what we were wanting, but that actually was quite apt. We wanted to be comfortable and I (Emily) always loved the idea of wearing wedding Doc Martens under my lovely wedding dress (which is actually pink but looks quite white in the pictures). The Doc Martens had blue satin laces with a silver sixpence from the year my Dad was born. My Dad sadly passed away a couple of years ago, so it was important to me to be wearing a reference to him whilst I was getting married.

ADVICE

Getting married during the pandemic really helped us focus on why we were getting married and what was important to us. Having such a short amount of time to organise things meant we made decisions quickly and we couldn't get worried about things as much as we might have done. My advice to those who are wondering if they want to get married during this time of uncertainty and restrictions, we have had times when it's not been possible to get married at all if you do, do it, you won't regret it and I think it will make a pretty good story for years to come! Keep in mind the reason you wanted to get married and relax about the details, small weddings can feel more intimate and for us, the fact it was small made it feel significant.

Emily and Adrian made up some funny vows to read to their guests at the reception. This helped form their speeches too, which didn't follow the traditional rules either.

My favourite moment of the day was when we got into the Rolls Royce to drive home and were given a glass of champagne. That drink was honestly the best one of my life!! It was also so lovely to have that drive back together and the fact we were driving home to our house where our very closest friends and family were was just amazing.
